Tykerb/Antibiotics

Can anyone let me know, which antibiotic is incompatible with Tykerb? I'm having surgery tomorrow and it might be helpful to know.
Thanks,
Diana.

Wink Re: Tykerb/Antibiotics

Your oncologist should know the answer to your question. If he or she doesn't return your call tell your surgeon you are taking Tykerb and that some antibiotics cannot be used with it. Your surgeon should be aware of this problem. Your surgeon may be able to look it up in a drug reference. You should also ask your surgeon talk with your oncologist about this topic before the surgery.
You may also get some help from http://www.tykerb.com
Good luck with your surgery. Take good care of yourself during your recovery.

Re: Tykerb/Antibiotics

I have read not to take rifamycin antibiotics... you can also call the pharmacy that provides you your Tykerb and they should know.

Talking Re: Tykerb/Antibiotics

Surgery is behind me for another three months. I have a kidney stent change every two to three months. I took your advice Elaine and took the info to the surgeon. Just prior to surgery, the blackberries came out and voila; the information was in their hands. Wow this technology just blows my mind. Because Tykerb is a newly approved drug in Canada, the information on interactions with other drugs is not readily available. I should have had this information myself, but being a last minute type 'c' personality I never got around to it.
Hugs,
Diana.
I keep meaning to get a signature but going back to 1993 and looking up all the twists and turns of my journey seems like a lot of work. I entered the treatment completely uninformed, but I must say my team has done the best for me.
