for those in lake michigan area

Every once in awhile my husband and I just get in the car and go for a drive here in Indiana. We try to pick a different road on the map every time. On Sunday we went north and ended up at Lake Michigan. First time I've ever seen it. There was shelf ice all along the coast and the ranger at the Indiana Dunes warned us to stay off of it because it can be very dangerous, plus there were signs every where saying the same thing. So, how long does this ice last? It was quuite a bit of ice and it was thick. It was really cool.

Hi Juanita,

I live about 8 blocks from Lake Michigan. I live in Wisconsin. It is beautiful, isn't it? I'm glad you were able to see it and enjoy it.

God made a beautiful world for us to enjoy.

Smile Juanita...

I now live about 30 miles from Lake Michigan, but grew up and went to school 2 blocks from Lake Michigan in St. Joseph (I graduated from Lake Michigan Catholic High School). Silver Beach was the best. I remember my high school boyfriend and I making out after the winter dance down at Silver Beach and watching the ice caps form. A couple of years ago I found an OLD picture of the St. Joseph lighthouse COVERED in ice and it was so cool. I bought it for my step mom who lives in St. Joseph and LOVES lighthouses...she loved it. It doesn't take that long, if I remember right by the end of April. Take care and God bless.

Lighthouse

We have traveled up and down the east coast and loved the lighthouses from Maine to Florida. After seeing this post it seems that we are missing some lighthouses in the middle of the USA. Thanks for making me aware of the Lake Michigan lighthouses. Will have to get some trips planned for this area. Yes, God did give us a most beautiful place......hope to enjoy the sights, the folks, the food, and the music of every one of them. Hugs, Bonnie

I went back many years when I read your post...the first vacation I ever went on as a child was to Silver Lake....and I lived in St Jose while working at DC Cook for a year....I loved a little restaurant overlooking the lake called Shue's...don't know if it is still there, but it was great.!
