Anyone watch Good Morning America this morning and see the segment on new upcoming imaging to detect breast cancer more precisely than even with MRI, which is costly and many insurances won't approve it.
The first was Molecular Breast Imaging, being trialed at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN which is 3x more accurate that other imaging and especially helpful for dense breasts. The patient is injected with a radioactive tracer then scanned with a camera, the tracer latches to the cancer cells and detects it at a very early stage unseen on conventional imaging.
The second was being trialed at Emory University in Atlanta, and was Stereo mammography, which detected 23% more tumors and had a 40% drop in false positives.
The 3rd was at Massachusettes General, and was digital mammography using Tomosynthesis , this touted to be 16% more accurate with a whopping 85% drop in false positives.
