Sept'09~ new 6mm & 1 cm spots in pituitary/optic chiasm area. Rx= 25 days of 3D conformal fractionated targeted IMRT to the tumors.
Oct'09~ 25 days of low dose 3D conformal fractionated targeted IMRT to the bone mets spot on rt. iliac crest that have been watching for 2 years. Added daily Aromasin back into treatment regimen.
Apr'10~ Brain MRI clear! But, see new small spot on adrenal gland. Change from Aromasin back to Tamoxifen.
June'10~ Tumor markers (CA15.3) dropped from 37 to 23 after one month on Tamoxifen. Continue to monitor adrenal gland spot. Remain on Tykerb/Herceptin/Tamoxifen.
Nov'10~ Radiate positive mediastinal node that was pressing on recurrent laryngeal nerve, causing paralyzed larynx and a funny voice.
Jan'11~ MRI shows possible activity or perhaps just scar tissue/necrotic increase on 3 previously treated brain spots and a pituitary spot. 5 days of IMRT on 4 spots.
Feb'11~ Enrolled in T-DM1 EAP in Denver, first treatment March 25, 2011.
Mar'11~ Finally started T-DM1 EAP in Denver at Rocky Mountain Cancer Center/Rose on Mar. 25... hallelujah.

5/7/09 - Mastectomy and reconstruction started. Two tumors found. Tumors were side by side. DCIS tumor was 2.8 cm, ER-, PR-, grade 2. Invasive tumor was 1.1 cm, poorly differentiated, grade 3, ER+90%, PR+95%, HER2+3. Thankfully, no node involvement.
5/29/09 - Second surgery resulting from difficulty healing from mastectomy.
6/2/09 - Began Herceptin treatments
6/23/09 - Began Taxotere and Carboplatin treatments along with Herception every 3 weeks.
10/06/09 - Completed Taxotere and Carboplatin - Yeah!!!
10/27/2009 - Herceptin maintenance and began Femara
12/10/2009 - 2nd stage reconstruction surgery
2/2010 - Body rejected saline implant
3/18/2010 - Second stage reconstruction using silicone implant
5/4/10 - Completed Herceptin - YEE-HAA!
May '10 - Body rejects silicone implant...taking a break.
11/29/10 - Hysterectomy

Brenda's statement is very true to most Texans.
When I first started working in the local public library in 1987 - just 2 1/2 years after I had arrived in this country - I was reminded by a long-time library user/volunteer that in Texas we do not tell others our political preference. "You can get into a big fight if you talk to the wrong person about whom you are going to vote for," he had warned me.
I later learned from my Father-in-law how stubborn/unreasonable/passionate Texans can be. Father-in-law is a well-educated (master's degree), well-experienced (retired high school principal) native Texan. But he identifies with his rural upbringing and is content with his small-town life style. He dislikes anyone who's acting like a 'big shot'.
His other daughter-in-law, in my view a very normal American/Texan whose habit/demeanor is that of the average American (Capitalist, materialist, yet at the same time a devoted church goer,) - had fallen from favor not too long after she had married my In-law's older son almost 30 years ago. The fact that she has raised two good daughters who have married hard-working men and brought up good great-grant children does not change Father-in-law's view on her.
The rural area used to be Lyndon Johnson's Democratic strong hold. Bill Clinton's scandal repelled everyone and when Bush was running for the presidency, everyone got excited because he's running on the 'God and Country' theme.
I have always been very opinionated on everything because my Mother used to be a city commissioner in Taiwan. But I've learned to keep 'quiet' whenever I'm accompanying my Father-in-law. He's 87 right now. Even when we went to the doctor's office last week, he wanted to assert his independence and did not want anyone to be with him when he saw the doctor (who's also our family doctor.) He would tell us later the conversation he had with the physician...

Good job, Bill. I'm proud of ya.
I'm pretty conflicted by this thread. I mean, I'd rather Brenda not have breast cancer (of any of us for that matter).
On the other hand, if she was a politician, I'd sure vote for her even if it meant moving to Tejas. Although we could use her even more in California.
On the other hand, since she'd rather have bc than be a politician, even if she won on a write in campaign, she probably would refuse to serve, then the government would get nothing done.
On the other hand (is that 3 or 4 now???) maybe that might be a good thing.
On the other hand, I probably should take my cue from Bill and hush up so I don't get in trouble from Joe for discussing politics on the forum.
On the other hand, since I'm discussing the pros and cons of non-politicians not running for any office, maybe I'm ok.
Is it time to vote yet?

That said, I still wouldn't want to be a politician, even if I do have a good political name. But if I were, you better believe you would hear from me, on a regular basis. Except when I am hanging incognito at the lodge at the Winter Olympics drinking hot toddies wearing my red, white and blue wig.

I missed the back story on how you got to hang out in the lodge at the Olympics? I did laugh at a few of the other posts when people were talking about seeing you there.
:-) I was orginally from the NW - so spent many a weekends partying and skiing in Blackcomb and Whistler --- I had one great experience when my best friend and I took the afternoon off from skiing and checked into the Spa at Chateau Whistler --- and then after a great massage - we started drinking "Pops" Champagne ... think our bar bill ended up being 200 --- each! UGH! Sad but true -- as they came in the cutist tiny blue bottles - and each one was 20 Canadian --- ugh! How many did we drink - and how much food did we order? :-) Too many. But we had a great time ---

Apr'08~ scans still show NED in the head, small bone spot on right iliac crest (rear pelvic bone)
Sept'08~ MRI shows activity in brain mets, completed 5 fractions/5 consecutive days of IMRT to zap the pesky buggers
Oct'08~ dropped Xeloda, switched to tri-weekly Herceptin in combo with Tykerb, extend to tri-monthly Zometa infusion
Dec'08~ Brain MRI- 4 spots reduced to punctate size, large spot shrunk by 3mm, CT of torso clear/pelvis spot stable
June'09~ new 3-4mm left cerrebellar spot zapped with IMRT targeted rads
Sept'09~ new 6mm & 1 cm spots in pituitary/optic chiasm area. Rx= 25 days of 3D conformal fractionated targeted IMRT to the tumors.
Oct'09~ 25 days of low dose 3D conformal fractionated targeted IMRT to the bone mets spot on rt. iliac crest that have been watching for 2 years. Added daily Aromasin back into treatment regimen.
Apr'10~ Brain MRI clear! But, see new small spot on adrenal gland. Change from Aromasin back to Tamoxifen.
June'10~ Tumor markers (CA15.3) dropped from 37 to 23 after one month on Tamoxifen. Continue to monitor adrenal gland spot. Remain on Tykerb/Herceptin/Tamoxifen.
Nov'10~ Radiate positive mediastinal node that was pressing on recurrent laryngeal nerve, causing paralyzed larynx and a funny voice.
Jan'11~ MRI shows possible activity or perhaps just scar tissue/necrotic increase on 3 previously treated brain spots and a pituitary spot. 5 days of IMRT on 4 spots.
Feb'11~ Enrolled in T-DM1 EAP in Denver, first treatment March 25, 2011.
Mar'11~ Finally started T-DM1 EAP in Denver at Rocky Mountain Cancer Center/Rose on Mar. 25... hallelujah.

alternative chemo 5/05-7/05, rad 8/05-10/05
7/06 dx mets to vertebrae, pelvis & chest lymph nodes
8/06 - 10/06 tamoxifen, herceptin, oophorectomy & zometa
11/06 PET/CT showed continued bone mets, new spot on liver
12/06 began taxotere/herceptin 1x/3 weeks,
2/07 - 2-08 NED!
3/08 progression, start taxol/herceptin weekly, monthly zometa
8/08 start ai & herceptin
12/08 - progression, start weekly navelbine/herceptin thru 6/09 & monthly zometa
7/09 - PET/CT showed improvement in spine, but 2-3 lymph nodes in chest became active
9/09 - 11/09 - weekly abraxane/herceptin
12/09 - PET/CT - chest lymph nodes resolved, progression in spine & pelvis
2/10 - 6/10 - start tykerb/xeloda, progession in spine & pelvis
7/10 - start taxotere/carboplatin/herceptin

Thank you for the back story - but I saw this thread - and sorry - it might be the chemo - or maybe it was the amount of Italian red wine I drank with the great dinner I had with friends tonight in Italy - but I'm still lost ---- hummmmm..... I'm not an airhead - so I must be able to blame this on --- CHEMO! :-) Thank you - I am thinking you really were working on the great looks of the men and women of the Olympics - to escape from helmet head!????

4-09 – Became a vegan! pH balance of body - cancer can't grow in neutral pH!
4-09 Started Herceptin & Chemo (9 weeks of Navelbine *)
* FYI - when coupled with Herceptin has the same results as more toxic chemo. No brainer!
8-09 - 30 RADS
9-09 - Said NO to hormone therapy
4-10 Finished Herceptin!!!!
7-10 PET Scan & other exams .... All clear! YIPPEE!!!!
11-10 Breast, organ Ultrasounds and lung x-rays all clear no changes ... NED!
2-25-2011 --- 2 years from surgery and NED!!!!!!
7-2011 Clear bone scan and full body and head MRI! NED! NED! NED! ;-)[/SIZE]

No prob Karen. I was a little 'silent'/out of pocket from the Her2 boards for several weeks and the very hilarious folks here started 'imagining and creating' what I was up to during that time... The Olympics story became the predominant storyline...(Actually, I had been out of the country on a trip before Christmas, then gone at Christmas, then in Miami for 3 weeks doing my annual work at the Superbowl... and then had houseguests for a couple of weeks).

MY STORY SO FAR ~~~~
Found suspicious lump 9/2000
Lumpectomy, then node dissection and port placement
Stage IIB, 8 pos nodes of 18, Grade 3, ER & PR -
Adriamycin 12 weekly, taxotere 4 rounds
36 rads - very little burning
3 mos after rads liver full of tumors, Stage IV Jan 2002, one spot on sternum
Weekly Taxol, Navelbine, Herceptin for 27 rounds to NED!
2003 & 2004 no active disease - 3 weekly Herceptin + Zometa
Jan 2005 two mets to brain - Gamma Knife on Jan 18
All clear until treated cerebellum spot showing activity on Jan 2006 brain MRI & brain PET
Brain surgery on Feb 9, 2006 - no cancer, 100% radiation necrosis - tumor was still dying
Continue as NED while on Herceptin & quarterly Zometa
Fall-2006 - off Zometa - watching one small brain spot (scar?)
2007 - spot/scar in brain stable - finished anticoagulation therapy for clot along my port-a-catheter - 3 angioplasties to unblock vena cava
2008 - Brain and body still NED! Port removed and scans in Dec.
Dec 2008 - stop Herceptin - Vaccine Trial at U of W begun in Oct. of 2011
STILL NED everywhere in Feb 2014 - on wing & prayer
7/14 - Started twice yearly Zometa for my bones
Jan. 2015 checkup still shows NED
2015 Neuropathy in feet - otherwise all OK - still NED.
Same news for 2016 and all of 2017.
Nov of 2017 - had small skin cancer removed from my face. Will have Zometa end of Jan. 2018.
