Gabapentin for hot flashes

Has any one tried Gabapentin for hot flashes and would like to share the good, the bad and the ugly about it. I'm still struggling with very frequent, intense, flashes. I tried Effexor, no help and pine tree bark, with negligible change.
This is the next treatment recommend by my doc. I'm only 18 months into 5 years of Tamoxifen so I have a long road ahead and would love some relief.
Thanks,
Elizabeth

Re: Gabapentin for hot flashes

I discovered by accident that gabapentin reduces hot flashes when my surgeon prescribed it for nerve pain. It also got rid of my insomnia and restless legs. Sometimes I think about going back on it just for the latter two.

The only side effect I may have noticed (but it was difficult to be sure of the cause) was ditziness. I'm still very forgetful now after 2 years off of gabapentin, so that may have not been related.

The funny thing is my cat is now on it for hip pain (he's 17) - it makes him noticeably dopey for a couple hours after he takes it - but happy and sweet.
