First mammogram after dx - not great...

I've been reading a lot of post here and notice how supportive you all are. I went for my 1 st mammogram this week, now that chemo and radiation are behind me, and am now scheduled for a biopsy on friday. There are some "calcifications" that could be harmless or could be dcis, in the same area of my original lumpectomy. Has this happened to anyone here? I just finished radiation at the end of January. Needless to say, the waiting is not fun, and I don't want to tell my family (except my husband who was with me) until I know what to tell them. Sometimes it sure is hard to pretend that all is going well...

Marie,

As you can see from my signature, you and I both had very similar situation when our BC was first diagnosed. I would rather to have your situation 3, 4 years ago than to find out the recurrence with a 2+ cm tumor growing out of the surgical site. I know the shocking feeling. And how fatigued you must be right now just after the treatment. But trust me, it's better to find it sooner than later. Best wishes to you. And I am not saying that they will find anything but calcification...

Dear Marie,

I can't relate as far as finding calcifications in the same breast that I had cancer in (because I had my breast removed) but when chemo and radiation were completed it was time for a mammogram of my remaining breast. An area of calcification was found near the chest wall in that breast and they wanted to biopsy the area also. It totally freaked me out.

Well, long story short..............the biosply was benign - thank God - and yours may be as well. I pray it is.

The waiting is the hardest part. Once we know what's going on we can deal with it and move on.

Love and Peace to you Marie,

Mary Jo

Red face Thanks ladies, the support is appreciated...

I knew I would have something to be thankful for if I took my problems here. Now I feel like a complainer, since so many of you have been through much worse than what I've been through! I'm going to try not to worry until I have something to worry about...
God bless you all.

First of all do not feel like a complainer. We all are going through a horrible thing. Our bodies and mood change with the doctors appointment of the day. You have every right to feel scared, unsure and any other emotion that comes your way.
I also had a bad first mammo. I could not believe after all the chemo, rads, and herceptin that there coud have been anything. They took them all out and thank God they were nothing. My surgeon and onc both told me to get ready for this to be the norm. If they find even the slightest of calcifications or any other abnormality there would be a biopsy. I hope and pray that this is nothing for you and you will join the ranks of the rest of us. Be calm and wait it out. And in the mean time we are all here for you. Kriss

Talking Marie.....

Thought about you last week and wondered how you were making out. After reading your post I wanted to remind you that you are always in our prayers and we are a stones-throw away from one another (please do not throw any stones though, bad eye problems and I need whatever mind I have left!! LOL!!). And a friendly reminder, we are all on the same journey with the same needs and desires....try to never feel one journey is easier or harder than another. Besides, we all cope differently too and that does play a factor with how we thrust forward on this journey. All of have the rights to be scared, to vent, to question, to complain, etc! We all want to make it through, buy some time, conquer this beast!! I will be praying that these califications are just that--'calcifications'.

Marie, it's ok to whine and fuss and carry on and fret (Yeah, I said fret again, I live south of the Mason/Dixon Line). You have come to the right place to do all of the above. One big family here. You're in our thoughts and prayers, Love, Bill
