Tykerb Information
I was told by GSK today that you can locate the closest center available to you in order to access the EAP Tykerb Trial.
Beginning June 12, for more information about the Tykerb EAP in the U.S. call 1-888-4TYKERB (489-5372). - Patients should press (1) and will be transferred to a call center representative at the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD).
Regards
Joe

Tykerb/lapatanib in Canada?
Joe,
Do you know anything about trials or where the process is for getting the equivalent of FDA approval for Tykerb in Canada? Also, do you know the FDA approval sought for use by stage IV bc patients only? I had heard that Glaxo was thinking of a trial with Tykerb/lapatanib targetting pre-met bc patients.
Any information would be useful as I am Stage IIIa but have an anaphylactic reaction to Herceptin and had to stop receiving it half-way through the second infusion. Thanks.

Carina -
I am in the process of trying to get into the Tykerb clinical trial for pre-mets bc patients who are 8 years or less out of chemo. It is my understanding though that one of the requirements is that you have never received herceptin.
Here's a link to the clinical trial info. If you scroll down it lists contacts in Canada, I think there are some centers in Toronto listed.

Take care,
Pat

Thank goodness for Stephem Frye. What a great article. I feel like I need to personally thenk this man who wouldn't give up and now we have the hope of tykerb becoming available to all those who need it someday soon.

Thanks Pat. I checked the site and saw that there are several locations in Toronto but none are accepting participants as yet. I will give them a call tomorrow to get some more information.
Take care,
Carina

It says Maine is recruiting yet either but according to my oncs office the trial here will start up in about a month as soon as they have what they called their initiation by the one in charge of the trials. So, it may be worth a call to the sites listed and see what they say.
Good luck,
Pat
