Re: Low-dose aspirin may cut breast cancer risk by a fifth

Way back in 1991 there was an article in the American Journal of Epidemiology that showed (in that study) women who took Ibuprofen at least 4 times a week for a few years had 50% less breast cancer incidence. It has to do with inhibition of Cyclo-oxygenase type 2 enzyme which fuels cancer cell growth

Paul
Is there also a connection to inflammation?

Jules. I cant say if the anti cancer action of Aspirin and Ibuprofen etc (NSAID drugs) is due to decrease of inflammation but it is very likely. Inflammation (chronic) seems to be a potent carcinogen over many years. There are many examples but a good one might be bladder cancer in Egypt. In the past many Egyptians living near the Nile river would get a worm disease called Bhilzariasis (spelling-Im close) and the eggs from the worms would irritate the bladder wall. After many years of this, bladder ca ncer was often evident. This is one example.

Cancer has been described as a "wound that wont heal" and with wounds there is infllammation. Interestingly the Over the Counter supplement known as Pycnegenol in a dosage of say 100mg twice daily decreases inflammation. You can measure this by the C-Reactive protein levels which is the main marker of inflammation.

Thanks Paul.
Good to know!
I read a few studies & articles last year regarding aspirin. There seems to be so much more that aspirin is thought to be good for. Disappointing that as no money to be made big pharma not that interested.
Pycnegenol sold here for immune support and circulation!
