I have had a fever for the last several weeks, ranging from 99.5 to 101.6. I spent a week in the hospital haveing numerous tests, but no reason for the fever has been found. Usually, I have 2-3 days per week without a fever, but then it comes back. I will get my last Taxol on Friday, and then continue with Herceptin. I had a PET scan today, looking for possible infection. Anybody heard of this?

Fever

Hi:

I had three episodes of fever when on A/C and Taxol. I was hospitalized once when my Temp was 102.5 and my bloodpressure had fallen to 83/49 and my pulse was 115. They thought I was in septic shock. I was always treated with the antibiotic Levaquin. My white cells would drop to under 300 which is considered no white cells. The cause of the temperature was never established as my blood cultures always came back negative. I wonder if it was a combination of chemo and Nuelasta that casued the fever? I hope your problem also turns out to be not serious but a quirk of your body and the treatment you are receiving.

I had 6 rounds of dose dense TEC

and a week after the last one I landed in the hospital as my fever hit 101.5 and I couldn't stop vomitting. Was in there 3 days, wbc dropped to 200 and they never found the cause, just let it run its course and loaded me w/ antibiotics. Good luck and good health.

I didn't have fever during my chemo, but I met a woman that had fever all the time after Taxol, so they had to stop it and fever was gone. It seems it is a reaction to the drug.

fevers

I would always run a fever off and on for a few days after giving myself the neulasta shot after chemo, both the ac dose and the taxol.

After about 6 weeks of treatment I caught a cold and had that bugger for 4 months with fever off and on.

Other than that, nothing to report.

Angap,
I don't understand the PET scan for infection? It supposed to show any cancer activity. It lights up any fast acting cells like cancer. It can show some inflammation problems but i haven't heard of infection showing.
As far as the fever. I think of women have a fever from Herceptin too? I did once in a while.
