Angry Another friend diagnosed with b/c

Another friend of mine has learned that she has bc. It makes me sad. I wish not one more person would know the pain of dealing with cancer.

Three people in my little circle of friends have dealt with this. I have known them before their diagnoses. We are all young. Two friends live in the same neighborhood as me. It makes me wonder what is going on in my neighborhood. All four of us live in the same city. Does this seem like a high percentage? I believe for our age the stats are 1 in 200.

I am so sorry to hear your news of your friend....I have called it an epidemic for the last 2 years since I was diagnosed. I'm not good at knowing stats, but your situation does seem high. I am also convinced that this is a virus that can be controlled. I have spent alot of time researching all of this breast cancer stuff, and somewhere I read that a cure is expected soon. Someone is on to something....just not letting us know yet.

Tonya, I am so sorry that yet another person in your life has been forced to face the breast cancer journey. I do not live with horse blinders on but always get taken aback when I hear such news. I know the yearly stats but still find it hard to hear of someone we know now dealing with it. I am sending you a cyber hug, it is all I can do to express my extreme sadness for you and your friend. I shall keep her in my prayers.>>Believe51

Tonya,
I know- it does seem like an epidemic. Not sure where in Nor Cal you are, but of course Marin is a high bc area (not that they know why).

I've had 3 women in my office (including me) dx with breast cancer in the last 7 years. Plus one who came here after. Maybe we are just hyper alert to it - and people tend to reach out to me when they have a friend or loved one get this crappy news.

Either way, I would sure love to see a cure - preferably in my lifetime.

Sorry you are burdened with more bad news for your friend; but she is fortunate to have you to support her.

I was diagnosed over 20 years ago at age 32. I looked everywhere to find one other women my age. I checked with reach to recovery and many other places and I finally found 2 other young people with breast cancer. I definitely feel like it is hitting women in much larger numbers at an early age. I was the first wave of young women using birth control pills. They gave them to me at age 13 to control cramps. I know not all women that use bc pills get breast cancer but the timing is interesting.

I'm sorry your friend was diagnosed with BC

Interesting observation, Carolyn. My growth was stopped at age 14 with a high dose of hormones. I took them for two years, and have always wondered if there's a connection.

Tonya,

I'm sorry that another friend of yours has to deal with this. It seems that bc and other cancers are all around us.

I agree with Joan it seems like all I ever hear about is someone who has been diagnosed with some type of cancer. I am truly sorry about your friend.
