Question Yeast infection on tongue? What rememdy?

I had this myself (called "thrush"), but can't recall what I took, it has been that long.

A good friend has this from taking a lot of antibiotics this spring and it comes back.

So, anyone here who had this, what did you take that worked well for you??

Thanks a heap.

I had lozenges that the onc prescribed. I forget what they were called. It was an anti-fungal lozenge. Maybe you should ask your doc.

Hi StephN

The stuff I used was also a precription drug.
It was an expensive liquid and it was also
anti-fungal. But, I can't remember the name.

There is a prescription mouthwash her doc can prescribe. Otherwise, try plain yogurt in a cup. Liquify until a thick, swishable liquid and swish as long as possible a couple of times. It will help to eat it too but the swishing really works.

Steph is right about this. More likely than not, the stuff is called thrush. You need to talk to your Oncologist or primary care physician and they will prescribe an antibiotic mouthwash or lozenges. The mouthwash will kill the stuff in less than 24 hours. The lozenges take a little bit longer.

This is caused by a fungus that naturally lives in everyones mouth. During chemo, your immune system gets hammered and the fungus goes nuts. From what I understand, it is very common with chemo patients.

Nystatin is what Nicola was prescribed. It was one of those suspended liquid solutions, I think it was called. A mouthwash, gargle type thing, and it worked pretty good. Best wishes, Bill

Steph ~ When I had thrush my Oncologist prescribed the following "magic mouthwash" formula. I would swish it around and spit it out. He said that anyone who smokes has a greater risk of getting recurrent thrush. I don't smoke but at that time I asked about certain herbs to help with my weight loss and nausea and he said it would make my thrush worse. It didn't taste too good but it certainly helped.

RECIPE:

DIPHENHYDRAMINE SYRUP = 60ML, LIDOCAINE 2% VISCOUS = 60ML, MAALOX SUSPENSION = 60ML,
TOTAL VOLUME = 180ML

Steph, The lozenges are called Clotrimazole and are 10mg 1 tablet by mouth 3x day. This and the Nystatin (alias swish and spit or swallow) along with some vaginal suppositories should do the trick!
