Cool Mammosite Radiation

Hello all,
I had Mammosite radiation in 2008. Today, I was told that this type of radiation is not as effective as full breast radiation. I've had wonderful check-ups since 2008.......but the thought that I had less than effective radiation treatment bothers me a little. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Brenda

Re: Mammosite Radiation

I was scheduled for mammosite when I had my
lumpectomy but when my path report came back
I was grade3 and some signs of necrosis so they
removed the balloon? and I had regular radiation.
I think you will be fine with grade 2.

Re: Mammosite Radiation

Brenda,

I am in a clinical trial to compare partial breast irradiation to standard full breast irradiation (I was in the control group, and got standard therapy). The PBI delivered could have been via mammosite, IMRT, or one other form which I cannot recall, at the discretion of the treating physician. We have been waiting to see preliminary results, which have not been released yet. My rads onc presumes it is because there have been too few incidents to distinguish if there is a difference yet. When we get any info on the study results, I will post them. I have not seen any info on mammosite being inferior to standard therapy, only that there was a high risk of developing a seroma with that tx.

Regards,

Hopeful

Re: Mammosite Radiation

I had mammosite radiation in January of this year. I have read and heard nothing about it being less effective than full radiation. I understand that mammosite radiation is only done under certain conditions - tumor size, etc.
