Here is an other (older) example of the usefulness of PET scans in this case report in 2000:

Lymph node metastasis from breast cancer diagnosed by F-18 FDG whole-body PET (case report).

Nowdays, I assume a combined PET/CT scan would provide an even more accurate diagnostic.
