Anybody out there have hypo-thyroidism?

Or other auto-immune disorders?

I was diagnosed last fall with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (the auto-immune kind). I think something showed up on a CT scan that made my onc test for it. He said it's totally unrelated to cancer, treatment, etc.

I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

Thanks, Mindy

That is when the thyroid is sluggish, right? Are you taking medication for it?

During Herceptin treatment, I was gaining weight like crazy. Every time I stepped on the scale I had gained 2 pounds. I swore that what I was eating was not enough to be gaining weight...I felt that I was eating just enough to maintain my weight and possibly even be losing weight.

My onc checked my thyroid...yup, it was sluggish. Sent me to an endocrinologist who said he would not recommend medication at this point. Some docs would, he said, but he thought the numbers should indicate more of a problem before he would recommend meds.

I later learned that many people had indicated a weight gain while taking herceptin. (Understand I'm not complaining...) But now the weight needs to come off.

Sue,

Here is a link to the thread where I posted an article a few months ago about the relationship of auto-immune disease to cancer: http://her2support.org/vbulletin/sho...eferrerid=1173

Barbara,

Yes, my onc put me on Synthroid. I was on Herceptin at the time and, like you mentioned, I just kept gaining weight...6 lbs. in two weeks or something like that. I hate taking pills, but I'm sure glad to have the Synthroid to help my metabolism.

Thanks for the replies!
Mindy

I was diagnosed with hypo-thyroidism (sp?) six months after my daughter was born, 14 years ago.
