Got my port put in today

Hi Everyone, well, I made it thru the first step without a problem. Had my port put in this morning! I sure hope the rest of this journey is as easy as today was. I'm a little sore but am applying ice to keep the swelling down, they have to use this thing in the morning for my first chemo! My surgeon is so thorough, he had them take an x-ray after I woke up and then he stayed until he got the results to make sure everything is in place where it's supposed to be. I love my doctor, I told him I wish he could go with me to chemo and he said that he wishes he could too. Still awfully nervous about tomorrow but it will be here and gone soon enough. Just wanted to make sure I let you know that I made it and didn't pass out or cry or anything. Keep me in your thoughts tomorrow morning, please. susan

Congratulations, Susan. This is a one step at a time process, so give yourself a pat on the back each step of the way. The port will become your best friend. I've had mine in almost 1 year and it has worked flawlessly. Good luck tomorrow - we've all made it through and so can you.

Susan,

I am so happy that the port surgery went so well. Fantastic! I pray that your chemo goes really smoothly tomorrow.

Smile Susan...

You'll do fine. The first one is more "anxious" than the remaining ones. Take care and God bless.

Susan: Congrats on the port. I'm sure you will be very glad you have it and then you will also be very glad to get rid of it later. The first chemo is the scariest but really, while it certainly isn't a cakewalk, it wasn't nearly as bad as I was afraid it would be. You just have to stay focused on one day at a time and then you'll be done with treatment! Good luck. BERTA

Susan;

I am so glad you got your port in early. It will make things soooo much easier. Good luck tomorrow. We'll all be thinking of you. The first is the worst....and it's not too bad....just a shock to your system so watch your bowels....take some of those little things they give you..can't remember the name. Good luck.

Colace for the bowels. Start tomorrow night. Don't wait and see. They may have left a line in for your infusion. If you don't like the needle stick you can ask for emla in the future. I never did try it. My nurse said only men need it. I've gotten used to it without but I'm sure the emla makes it more pleasant. I took a portable DVD to these sessions and watched movies. Just plan on a little nap afterwords and I hope someone will make you dinner. You can do it! BB
