May'07~ Started Tykerb/Xeloda, no WBR for now
June'07~ MRI - stable brain mets, no new mets, 9mm spots less enhanced, CA15.3 down 45.5 to 9.3 in 10 wks, Ty/Xel working magic!
Aug'07~ MRI - brain mets shrunk half, NO NEW BRAIN METS!!, TMs stable @ 9.2
Oct'07~ PET/CT & MRI show NED
Apr'08~ scans still show NED in the head, small bone spot on right iliac crest (rear pelvic bone)
Sept'08~ MRI shows activity in brain mets, completed 5 fractions/5 consecutive days of IMRT to zap the pesky buggers
Oct'08~ dropped Xeloda, switched to tri-weekly Herceptin in combo with Tykerb, extend to tri-monthly Zometa infusion
Dec'08~ Brain MRI- 4 spots reduced to punctate size, large spot shrunk by 3mm, CT of torso clear/pelvis spot stable
June'09~ new 3-4mm left cerrebellar spot zapped with IMRT targeted rads
Sept'09~ new 6mm & 1 cm spots in pituitary/optic chiasm area. Rx= 25 days of 3D conformal fractionated targeted IMRT to the tumors.
Oct'09~ 25 days of low dose 3D conformal fractionated targeted IMRT to the bone mets spot on rt. iliac crest that have been watching for 2 years. Added daily Aromasin back into treatment regimen.
Apr'10~ Brain MRI clear! But, see new small spot on adrenal gland. Change from Aromasin back to Tamoxifen.
June'10~ Tumor markers (CA15.3) dropped from 37 to 23 after one month on Tamoxifen. Continue to monitor adrenal gland spot. Remain on Tykerb/Herceptin/Tamoxifen.
Nov'10~ Radiate positive mediastinal node that was pressing on recurrent laryngeal nerve, causing paralyzed larynx and a funny voice.
Jan'11~ MRI shows possible activity or perhaps just scar tissue/necrotic increase on 3 previously treated brain spots and a pituitary spot. 5 days of IMRT on 4 spots.
Feb'11~ Enrolled in T-DM1 EAP in Denver, first treatment March 25, 2011.
Mar'11~ Finally started T-DM1 EAP in Denver at Rocky Mountain Cancer Center/Rose on Mar. 25... hallelujah.

Oh Amelia, you are going to love it. I also made some whole grain chips to go with it, a rather healthy chip too. It is 67 degrees here today but it is always a good day for my chili, per Ed that is.

Diagnosed 8/7/08 with stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma, micropapillary pattern, Her2 3+, ER+,PR-, grade II, positive lymph nodes.
Received 6doses of Taxotere, Carboplatin with Herceptin continuing for a year...DONE.
1/28/09 Left Modified Radical Mastectomy, Right Simple Mastectomy.
Surgery pathology: No invasive carcinoma present and 17 lymph nodes removed all negative! Only small amount of carcinoma in situ in left breast.
March/April '09, Radiation to left chest wall.
Currently involved in Neratinib clinical trial.

I'm here at the campfire, wrapped in blankets and watching the warm flames as they dance and send embers into the night sky. I love being with all of you, eating elaine's food, drinking in your friendship and tossing my fears into that glowing pit. thank you for bneing here with me tonight. It has left me deep in thought and I wanted to share my thoughts with you while we are all together.
During some of my darker days with inflammatory breast cancer and then again when diagnosed with mets, including my 3 hospital adventures, I have found some comforting and grounding thoughts in a couple books:
Cancer as a Turning Point by Lawrence LeShan, PhD , and Close to the Bone, Life-threatening Illness as a Soul Journey by Jean Shinoda Bolen, MD., as well as numerous others (The Buddha in Your Mirror, The Journey, When Things Fall Apart, Learning to Fall, to name a few).
I learned that letting all the love around you actually come in - (when we get scared sometimes we feel so defensive we can't stay open to the healing power of love)- can bring a wonderful sense of peace, ease, and acceptance to the worst, most fearful, dark hours.
I think that there is no escaping fear and tears and suffering... that they are an unavoidable part of this journey, and that using too much energy denying the truth of that while always attempting to be the positive, uncomplaining heroine can be destructive. It is getting stuck there in the dark place that is not good. We may have to go there, but perhaps we don't have to live there, or from there.
A few years ago I realized that Cancer/Fear/Mortality/Etc had come to reside at the center of my person and affected and perhaps directed everything else in my life. Once I recognized that, I decided to move that weight, that burden, that suffering, away from the center. I knew it would not go away, but sometimes I hefted it up onto my shoulders, sometimes I dragged it along beside me, sometimes I could compact it into a very small package I carried with me in my purse or pocket. It was always there with me and I chose not to avoid it.
Yet, It was at that turning point that it became a part of my life, a real part, just not the whole center of my being. And once I was able to do that, I could live so much more fully, and have a sense of Being that was satisfying and joyful.

7-10-2019 CT to check lung nodule.
1-10-2020 8mm stable nodule on R Lung, two 6mm new ones on L Lung, a possible lymph node involvement in inter fissule.
