Re: Joe passed on this evening
This is such heart wrenching news. I had no idea Joe was ill, but am not surprised that he wished to spare others any concern.
I never had a chance to meet Joe in person, but worked with him over the last year developing the new website. I know he was very proud to go live with the site in January. It is his legacy.
The work that Joe and Christine have poured into this site has grown into a source of knowledge, support, friendship, love and sometimes refuge for so many of us.
My thoughts and prayers are with Christine and the girls and all who were enriched by Joe's outreach.

Re: Joe passed on this evening
Like for all the HER2 sisters, it's a loss of a man I've never met and known personally, but always felt close and connected to. He has touched so many lives with the way he was. The very first time I posted on this site, Joe emailed me right away asking where we are receving treatment. He wanted to talk to Roche representatives about programs to finance my mom's treatment. Mom's Drs here also talked to Roche and we eventually ended up receiving 4 Herceptin infusions free of charge.
I've always reminded myself of Joe's signature "Advocacy is a passion". Joe is a person I want to be like. He will be sorely missed!
Sending warm hugs and prayers to Christine and all the family.
P.S. I curse this damn disease!

Re: Joe passed on this evening
I consider myself one of the lucky ones from this site who had the privilege of meeting Joe. Loren (my husband) and I attended ASCO this year because of Joe’s treatment. He did not tell many about his fight because he did not want to burden anyone. He was so sure he was going to beat lung cancer and did everything he could to do just that.
I remember talking with him going to ASCO the first part of June. His voice was raw and he was coughing but this attitude was so positive. Just two weeks ago he sounded so much better, stronger and (as always) planning for our sites future. We will never understand all the connections he made in our behalf. He knew everyone in the breast cancer world and they knew him by name. He is irreplaceable.
My heart is so sad for Christine, Danielle, and Debra. He was an amazing man, father and loving husband. I am sure he is wearing his Hawaiian shirts & eating Bavarian Cream Dunkin Donuts while advocating for us on high. His dedication to Christine and to this website they founded - UNFORGETABLE.

Re: Joe passed on this evening
Christine, Danielle and Debra,
I am so sorry for the your loss of a wonderful husband and father.
There are very few people that have so positively touched the lives of so many. A word of heartfelt appreciation to both Christine and Joe for all of their years of work in support of the HER2 cause.
I am confident that upon Joe's arrival to heaven that he was greated and embraced by all of the HER2 angels that proceeded him. Hoping that thinking about the scene makes you feel the warmth and love. I also know, that have one more advocate up there and am encouraged more than ever that our prayers will be heard.
Love and Appreciation ....Lori

I am absolutely devastated by this news and can only imagine how much more painful it must be for those of you in his family. Through my tears I want you to know how loved he was by many of us who never met him other than here. I will pray that not only Belle but God will hold you in His arms through this time of sorrow and know that surely you will meet him again in heaven.
Love & hugs,

Re: Joe passed on this evening
What a loss. I was always amazed at the loving gesture Joe made to Christine by setting up this website. I have learned so much...and have even found myself thinking how blessed I am that my cancer was HER2+. That blessed feeling came from all the knowledge I have gained through this website. Christine and family - my thoughts go out to each and every one of you.

Re: Joe passed on this evening
I had the privilege of meeting Joe,Christine and, I believe it was Danielle, at ASCO 2009 and I was so happy to finally meet the amazing Druthers.
I am heartbroken for Christine and her family and for this community which he fashioned with his own hands
Eternally grateful to have met you Joe and for all you have done to keep people like myself alive. I wish we could have returned that favor.
My sincere condolences to all who knew and loved him,

Re: Joe passed on this evening
Dear Christine, Dannielle and Debra,
Such sad news. You already know how much Joe meant to so many. How proud you can be of him, a man who gave his entire heart and soul to many.
Truly an angel to all of us.
So like him to keep his own illness quiet so as not to upset others. We do not get to meet many amazing
people, I am honored to have met him.

For Joe...
"
"To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of ones self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exaltation; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - this is to have succeeded." -RALPH WALDO EMERSON "

Re: Joe passed on this evening
I had an urge to put some feelings aside and log into Her2 tonight. I am at a loss for words seeing that one of my favorite Angels has passed. I guess there are no words to describe what he meant to Ed and I. So as I sit here with tears in my eyes and I hope that you can fathom the sincere sympathy I express for a man who saved so many of our lives. So sorry to have us all mourn a man who brought us all together. Hugs to us all as we heal from this monumental loss.
My heartfelt sympathy to you Christine and the family he loved more than life itself....Believe51
