neck pain

YEARS ago my husband and i were in a car accident. i had on a seat belt but was thrown sideways and forward into my passenger window. wasn't hurt except for my neck. over the years it's given me problems now and then if i did something too strenuous. but lately it doesn't even have to be strenuous and it hurts. had a ct scan a year ago and all was fine as far as no cancer. but yesterday i did something strenuous and today i am in ALOT of pain. not just in my neck, it goes up into my head too from the muscles hurting so bad. so does anybody have any suggestions on how to get rid of the pain and possibly keep it from coming back?

Juanita,

I was also involved in a car accident about 30 years ago and I still occasionally get that neck pain when I overstrain.

I have found that getting periodic massages (by a registered massaged therapist) helps. Chiropractic has also helped me. They can put an ultrasound machine on your neck and direct it right into your muscles.

all the best

I had the same injury in 1993. After years of pain, a PT who did craniosacral therapy helped me get rid of the pain. Osteopaths do this kind of therapy too.

I too injured my neck years ago. What a coincidence -- two days ago I woke up with neck pain. People talk about rolling over in their sleep and waking up with a back strain. The same can happen with your neck. Yes, the throbbing headache you get from a neck strain is miserable. I am typing this with a rolled up towel pinned around my neck to give me more support. I used to buy cervical support collars from the drug store, but a rolled up towel works just as wall. I take over the counter naproxen. Last night I went to the accupuncturist for a neck treatment. I trust I will be better in a few days. Just to be safe, I make sure I'm not running a fever, since a stiff neck can be a sign of more serious trouble -- flu or even meningitis. I hope you feel better soon.

i think it might be a little of both. the heating pad does seem to help some while it's on. it's better today but had a crazy day at work ahead so i just went ahead and took it off. let somebody else deal with the crazy for a change.

Wink neck pain

I wonder if acupuncture, acupressure or chiropratic therapy would help?
Whenever I have an ache or pain from an old injury I use heat. Heat increases circulation and relaxes areas of pain.
My doc told me many times to use ice the first 24 hours and heat after that. The ice reduces swelling.
