"A novel finding of the study was that women whose tumors overexpressed HER-2 and HER-1 had around a 60% increased chance of relapse after preoperative chemotherapy compared with women whose tumors expressed normal levels.
The researchers comment: "If confirmed, future preoperative treatment should explore in selected subgroups of patients selective HER-1 and HER-2 blockade in addition to conventional treatments in an attempt to improve results in the preoperative setting."
