This new marker may explain why after a
biopsey that was benign - later develops into breast cancer.

This article references COX2 as an indicator of breast cancer to come. There has long been knowledge of COX2 playing a role in cancer proliferation.
In 2002 when I was finishing my treatment for liver mets, my med onc asked me to take Celebrex, which is a COX2 inhibitor. Since I am hormone negative, there was not much else to do besides stay on Herceptin and hope for the best.
My med onc said at that time that there was "anecdotal" evidence that taking a COX2 inhibitor also can inhibit the cancer, based on results from prostate cancer patients. I took the Celebrex for about 3 years until the heart warnings for this class of meds came out.
There are some supplements that can suppress COX2.

MY STORY SO FAR ~~~~
Found suspicious lump 9/2000
Lumpectomy, then node dissection and port placement
Stage IIB, 8 pos nodes of 18, Grade 3, ER & PR -
Adriamycin 12 weekly, taxotere 4 rounds
36 rads - very little burning
3 mos after rads liver full of tumors, Stage IV Jan 2002, one spot on sternum
Weekly Taxol, Navelbine, Herceptin for 27 rounds to NED!
2003 & 2004 no active disease - 3 weekly Herceptin + Zometa
Jan 2005 two mets to brain - Gamma Knife on Jan 18
All clear until treated cerebellum spot showing activity on Jan 2006 brain MRI & brain PET
Brain surgery on Feb 9, 2006 - no cancer, 100% radiation necrosis - tumor was still dying
Continue as NED while on Herceptin & quarterly Zometa
Fall-2006 - off Zometa - watching one small brain spot (scar?)
2007 - spot/scar in brain stable - finished anticoagulation therapy for clot along my port-a-catheter - 3 angioplasties to unblock vena cava
2008 - Brain and body still NED! Port removed and scans in Dec.
Dec 2008 - stop Herceptin - Vaccine Trial at U of W begun in Oct. of 2011
STILL NED everywhere in Feb 2014 - on wing & prayer
7/14 - Started twice yearly Zometa for my bones
Jan. 2015 checkup still shows NED
2015 Neuropathy in feet - otherwise all OK - still NED.
Same news for 2016 and all of 2017.
Nov of 2017 - had small skin cancer removed from my face. Will have Zometa end of Jan. 2018.

What supplements suppress the Cox2? Do you know?

Aspirin is a Cox 1 and 2 inhibitor as is Ibuprofen. Curcumin (aka tumeric) is also a cox 2 inhibitor as is rosemary.

Take a full strenght aspirin a day - it will do the job and help the heart out too.

Prolia every 6 months for osteopenia
NED 18 years!

This relates to the inflammation issue. In addition to the environmental estrogen issues, Ruth had not two consectutive frozen shoulders a few years back. Do I recall correctly that there is evidence linking inflammation to bc?
(which I always wonder about given the side affects from some of the anti-cancer drugs) Push-me pull-you. I'm' quite sure RB would be willing to chime in on this issue as the fish oils have anti-inflammatory affects.

It's great to get your reply, Becky, and thanks for the aspirin reminder. Ever since we chatted with the onc. on the bus in Atlanta, I've been taking the Folic Acid when I have more than enough fruit of the vine in one sitting. (P.S. Just got back from Sonoma and I would highly recommend the El Dorado Hotel right on the square in Sonoma, CA).
Plus, as you mention, the aspirin helps with the heart, too. I would think that you take the "coated" variety, don't you? When you also say "full strength," you don't mean the baby aspirin mg., but the regular "adult" amount?
It's always nice hearing from you. BTW, I hit quote on this and don't know what it will do, but I wanted to try it.
Wish you were closer, Becky. Yes, I decided to start getting on the board a bit more these days and it's great reading and learning so much from all these wonderful voices. Of course, you know you're one of them. A true original!!
