My onc is something else...

There was another thread on this board on the topic of KI-67. A couple of us mentioned we don't have a KI-67 any where on our path reports. I called the lab that ran my path report and the women there looked me up and informed me that my Her2 and FISH was ran there, but the KI-67 was a seperate test and that was not ran on me. So I was going to ask my onc about this...and see why it wasn't ran?

(Side note.) I was suppose of of gotten to see Dr. Slamon but that never happened as she promised. So I told my onc how I never had my KI-67 done and was curious why it wasn't ran?

She says to me had I went to Dr. Slamon I would of found out straight from the pioneer himself that the Ki-67 isn't important. I forget her exact words but she let me know he would of blown it off, its not something he would even bother to use. I told her that's not true because I know too many women that have seen Dr. Slamon and they all had their KI-67 ran. She shut right up and changed the subject. I couldn't believe she used him as an example of how the KI-67 is so un-important. If its so worthless...why do just about all the women here have it on their path reports?

Hi Chelee,
As my Mother used to say, "If a person lies enough, evenutally they will get caught" sound like your caught your onc.

Of couse the KI 67 is not the only test that is important since when making treatment decsions all the different components from the pathology report help to make decisions. Don't feel to bad since my first dr. did order it and yet did not pay attention to the score, where as Dr. Slamon did.

If this helps you to feel any better, the score of the KI 67 would be of importance when on the fence with the decison to get chemo or not.
For your peace of mind, having chemo for your dx. was a no brainer.
So in the long Chelee, you did not miss out on a test that would have changed your treatment. It is more critical for those who are stage 1
and unsure.

Hope this helps...thinking of you and sending you,
Big Hugs,
Jean
