Glutamine question
My doc mentioned Glutamine to me yesterday as some of you said she would. But I dont understand her instructions. She said (wrote) to take 10 gm 3xday. I went to health food store and they pointed out that I would have to take 10 scoops each time (1000 mg each). It comes in 1000 mg tablets also, but again, I would have to take 10 at a time.
So what is your experience?? And do any of you take the tabs instead of the goop? Seems more convient. But everyone refers to the liquid....

Hi Bonnie - I have taken Glutamine for a couple of years now. My instructions are to take one scoop of powder in a shot of fruit juice 3 x day. The scoop being the one that comes in the can of Glutamine powder...

Oct'08~ dropped Xeloda, switched to tri-weekly Herceptin in combo with Tykerb, extend to tri-monthly Zometa infusion
Dec'08~ Brain MRI- 4 spots reduced to punctate size, large spot shrunk by 3mm, CT of torso clear/pelvis spot stable
June'09~ new 3-4mm left cerrebellar spot zapped with IMRT targeted rads
Sept'09~ new 6mm & 1 cm spots in pituitary/optic chiasm area. Rx= 25 days of 3D conformal fractionated targeted IMRT to the tumors.
Oct'09~ 25 days of low dose 3D conformal fractionated targeted IMRT to the bone mets spot on rt. iliac crest that have been watching for 2 years. Added daily Aromasin back into treatment regimen.
Apr'10~ Brain MRI clear! But, see new small spot on adrenal gland. Change from Aromasin back to Tamoxifen.
June'10~ Tumor markers (CA15.3) dropped from 37 to 23 after one month on Tamoxifen. Continue to monitor adrenal gland spot. Remain on Tykerb/Herceptin/Tamoxifen.
Nov'10~ Radiate positive mediastinal node that was pressing on recurrent laryngeal nerve, causing paralyzed larynx and a funny voice.
Jan'11~ MRI shows possible activity or perhaps just scar tissue/necrotic increase on 3 previously treated brain spots and a pituitary spot. 5 days of IMRT on 4 spots.
Feb'11~ Enrolled in T-DM1 EAP in Denver, first treatment March 25, 2011.
Mar'11~ Finally started T-DM1 EAP in Denver at Rocky Mountain Cancer Center/Rose on Mar. 25... hallelujah.

I definitely believe that it helped mitigate the numbness. I still had the neuropathy from Taxol, but I don't think it was as bad as could have been. It is also good for the intestinal tract, immune system, and helps the body continue to heal from all of the stuff we have to do to it on this journey. I have been really bad lately about taking it, but your post is a good reminder to me to get back to my regular routine...

I suffer from permanent neuropathy due to a lumbr spinal fusion. And now I expect it to get worse which my new treatment (Taxol/carboplatin). My neurologist recommended that I take Gluosamine Clondroitin which you can purchase in pill form over the counter at any drug store. It does help somewhat. I also took Neurontin which helped but I didn't like the side effects -- it was like having an out of body experience. Also, you might want to ask for a prescription for Lyrica which I have found helps a great deal. Good luck to you.

I take (shellfish free) glucosamine hydrocloride too, for inherited weak knees. It is also very helpful.

Hi, I took glutamine capsules which are cheaper and easier and had great success with it relieving bone pain during treatment with taxotere. Hope you find what works!

My glutamine powder is by Jarrow and is 500mg per scoop. I don't think it's very expensive, and it lasts forever.
