CLA for weight loss AND blocks estrogen!?

Hi, I know there's no "magic pill" for weight loss but apparently CLA, or Conjugated Linoleic Acid, will help you maintain your weight and possibly help you to loose a little bit. While researching this pill for weight, I came across A LOT of articles that Conjugated Linoleic Acid Blocks Estrogen Signaling in Human Breast Cancer Cells! There were many many articles on this.

Has anyone else heard of this? I know some herbal medicines can be really bad on the liver but I can't find information linking the two on side effects.

Is this something that might help us? I'm not very good at reading abstracts so maybe some of you can help me understand this.

I just googled CLA and this is the web site I was reading: jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/full/134/3/674

Thanks!
Linda (from a very cold city!)

Thanks

Thanks Rhonda,
I'm quite new to this site and have not learned the art of navigating the different forums for information.

I'm still don't understand the abstract. I wish I could find something in layman's terms! Is it good? Is it bad? How does it interact with the liver as I have a liver disease and I know some herbal medicines can really harm the liver.

Anyway, thanks again for your help

So much is unknown. It is all so interlinked and complex.

You must always talk to your advisors. You can only do lots of reading and come to your own conclusions.

There is a site called NCBI. If you enter your condition and CLA you might find some trials. Similarly fat intake can have a big impact on liver health fatty liver etc. There are some suggestions that balancing omega threes and sixes can help. You might like to look up your condition and DHA EPA etc.

The "greek diet" post may be of interest, as may "the breast cancer diet" Rhondah posted.
