Red face First round of Herceptin

Well, I made it though my first, of many, rounds of Herceptin today. The benadryl made me extremely tired but other than a headache I'm feeling fine. My rbc count was low so I had to get my usual shot of Procrit.

Congrats on a successful first run! The headache is fairly common, the tiredness too especially if you continue to get Benedryl. Good luck with your relationship with Herceptin!

Hi tousled1, A big congratulations on getting through your first infusion of herceptin. Its always a relief to get through a new drug that you haven't had before.

Sounds like all was normal for you. Being tired is par for the course. Plus add the benadryl and that alone can make you extremly tired. But I have been on herceptin since Feb. of this year...weekly...and I can tell you for me...I am always the MOST tired the first day of I get the herceptin. In fact..its the one NIGHT I will actually sleep pretty good. After that, the rest of the week I wake up alot during the night? Don't know why?

But being on herceptin so far for me...is a piece of cake compared to all the other chemo drugs. The headache is quite normal. I know once they did not give me some tylenol BEFORE my herceptin. I stood up and WHAM...I had this terrible headache. But I always take the tylenol now before...and its never happened again. I think you will find it pretty easy after any other chemo drugs you have had.

I am glad it went well.

Chelee

Kate, congratulations! So glad that first time is over for you. I had benadryl the first few times and promptly fell asleep. I would then be tired the rest of the day. I asked if I could stop it and the following time I did, then tylenol the next time. I've never had a problem! I hope yours runs as smoothly! Maggie
