Leukine is only a white blood cell booster. It is different from Neulasta or Neupogen as those only boost neutrophils whereas Leukine boosts all white blood cell components - neutrophils, monocytes and most importantly the dendrites. Dendrites are the "scouts" that look for invaders (bacteria, cancer etc) and then send signals to the lymph nodes to manufacture killer Tcells against that. Therefore, it could be like a self vaccinating system.
I was lucky to get my onc to let me use it instead of Neulasta especially since he didn't seem to like being partners with the patient and I left him as soon as I started to receive Herceptin.
