new PET/CT radionucleide agent much better than current 4 detecting minimal residual

disease, tumors, progress with treatment

THE CURRENT AGENT IS BASED ON GLUCOSE AND ALSO LIGHTS UP THE BLADDER AND OTHER ORGANS, WHICH MAKES IMAGES HARD TO INTERPRET SOMETIMES.

THE NEW AGENT DETECTS IMAGES MORE ACCURATELY, WHEN THEY ARE SMALLER, AND IS BASED ON COMBINING 2 AGENTS ALREADY FDA APPROVED,
AVASTIN AND COPPER-64 (however, when you fuse agents, they can develop different properties, may be harder to excrete by the liver or kidney, and FDA approval is far from a slam-dunk.

Nevertheless, the science is hopeful and if/when it is approved may solve the dilemna of how to find tumors at the earliest time, how to find recurrences at the earliest time and how to differentiate innocent vs metastatic e pulmonary nodules many have posted about having on their scans
