This is not he first time I've heard of someone faking having bc. I understand this woman has emotional problems, but having lived this hell I just don't get it.
In the past, I've encountered someone on another message board that I believe was faking having bc. At first, she was very nice and offered to exchange phone numbers with anyone that asked. She reveled in posting information on how others were doing. She seemed upset that I wouldn't give her my number. My dear friend had exchanged numbers with her and would get calls at the strangest times. Her brother-in-law had died in a plane crash, and this woman would call and cry about her father's dog dying, offering no condolances for my friend's BIL. She constantly asked for my number and would start fights on the board. She would say nasty things about other people and accused people of lying about having bc just for cards and gifts. She was just short of accusing me of lying about all my problems (I wish I was lying!!). I then started to realize that just maybe she was the one that was lying. I went back over her diagnosis and posts and realized that many of her posts didn't add up and that she wasn't consistant. It is very sad that some people think they need this kind of attention. Kind of makes me feel lucky???

There are some very strange people in the world, and maybe some things are worse than bc!! I wish we could all be lying or living a nightmare we wake up from but as I said, bc is'nt the worst things we could have

2018 Mammo all clear, still NED!

Maryann it never fails to amaze me what people will do for attention. It is sad that some will stoop to this level. What is even sadder is that there must be something that happened to this person to make them like this. I would give anything to not be living with cancer, but I guess as Rizzo said in Grease, " there are worse things I could do."

Mary Ann I read that yesterday on teh opening page of AOL, and I thought what the hell ! I feel very sorry for this woman, and then I at the same time I am so pissed at her.
As for people on message boards faking BC, I have run into this same thing with someone. She was the AOL Breast Cancer Message Board. Things didn't add up, and then she just disappeared.
Yes, these people are so sick.

There are some people addicted to sympathy and the syndrome is called Munchhausen's Syndrome. These people in the more advanced stages have been known to be very destructive if their pleas for sympathy are exposed as a sham. Be very careful with this person. She sounds toxic.

i know a woman i swear has the munchhousen's syndrome. she doesn't go to great extremes to have her kids sick, but there is always something wrong with one of them.

This just happened about a month or so ago over on YSC. A woman came on and had been posting regularly. She then said that her son had died in the hurricane. It was not true. While it seems that her mother did have breast cancer, she did not. It was a long, drawn out situation but she finally admitted the lie. How very sad that someone would take such a life-changing (and taking) experience for us, and use it for their own self-gratification...
I can only hope that she will get the help that she needs. However, not on BC boards.
