Thumbs up Back From 3-day Breast Cancer Walk

Hi all -

Well, we did our 3-day walk this week end. I have to tell you the experience is unbelievable. I am so grateful that I was able to be part of it. I was able to walk the entire first day which was about 20 miles without any problems. But at the end of the day I developed a HUGE blister which covered the entire bottom of my foot. I was not able to put pressure on it after that and could not walk the next 2 days. Needless to say I was very disappointed since I wanted so badly to come in with my team that last day. I was able to make the victory walk which was about 1/2 mile on the last day. My team was AWESOME and made the whole walk. I still tear up thinking about the whole thing.

The whole camping experience was so much fun. We had beautiful weather (a little cold at nite) but it was fun. The volunteers and medical staff and everyone associated with the event were so great to everyone. I can't truly explain to anyone unless you have taken part in one of these walks just how wonderful you feel just being there. Seeing people walking with injured legs, feet bandaged, sore backs but still walking just makes you want to cry and never complain again.

All in all I guess I did not do so badly since taking in to consideration that I am on chemo.

I am getting ready for next year.....

now on to my next adventure

Irene,

You should be very proud of yourself. I'm not sure if I'd be able to make it a whole day but hopefully I'll get a chance to try. Glad that you enjoyed it so much and I'm sure you met people who will become life long friends.

Good job Irene! You are an inspiration to many...here you are on chemo and still participating for the cause. I can imagine how uplifting, emotional and proud you must have felt of your team and you too. I did the Y-Me walk last spring and felt so good doing so. I was lucky because it was right before my chemo started so I felt fine. I would love to participate in the 3 day walk here but not sure just how far I would get but it certainly is worth the try. You get such an incredible feeling being surrounded by all the many fellow breast cancer patients and survivors. Congrats.

I am so glad to hear you enjoyed yourself on the 3 Day. And, no, I don't think you did bad at all, a 20 mile walk takes a lot out of a person. I'm sure the time spent with your daughters was priceless. I'm sorry to hear about your blister, I hope it is healing as there is nothing that hurts quite like a blister. Your enthusiam has me excited for my event coming up!

Hi Irene,

Great job, you did excellent! I've done the walk twice and I'm sorry I forgot to tell you whevener you go for a long walk, run, hike etc... make sure to cover your feet with Vaseline, be very generous and make sure you spend $15 to $20 for a good pair of sucks. I learned my lesson from my first marathon with blister and pain.

Irene, that was wonderful you did 20 miles in one day!! To be honest with you I think I am quite fit but don't believe I could do 20 miles!! I could do 5 but I would have more then a bad blister anymore then that. I hope the blister heals and the Xeloda doesn't make it worse. hugs, Sandy
