Any Thyroid Cancer patients who later developed Breast Cancer and Ultrasounds

Hi! I was just wondering if any of you out there are previous Thyroid Cancer patients who later also developed Breast Cancer, and if so, what were the signs and symptoms you experienced that led you to further investigate odd breast changes or lumps? Anyone ever have a breast ultrasound done on a lump in the breast that can be felt but the lump not show up on computer monitor screen, or have what is referred to as irregular areas in the breast near lump show on the screen when the tranducer wand is moved across the breast in one direction during the breast ultrasound, but when moved across the breast and breast lump in another direction, no irregular areas show up on the screen? Does this mean that lump is only Fibrocystic tissue or could it still be a possible tumor, etc...? I would appreciate any help, suggestions and any input at all. Thanks.

Hi,
I havn't had thyroid cancer. Have you had any other tests other than the ultrasound for the breast? If not it would be a good idea. See if your Dr. will ok a mamo and MRI. I just read an article in Ladies Home Journal that described some of the testing that can be done and it gave the pros and cons of each. You might want to check it out. Some tests arent good for picking up some things while others are.I was diagnosed in 4/05 with breast cancer.I hope after going thru thyroid cancer you dont have to join in on this one too!
Good luck,
Alice

Thanks Alice

I just saw your message, as I have been away for work since last week. I appreciate your input and actually have had a mammogram(my first one) a few months ago, but it did not show anything. It looked okay, but the doctor stated that I have very fibrocystic breasts and they are real dense, so sometimes because of that reason, even if there is a sign of breast cancer, it can be overlooked, but at the same time, it does not necessarily mean it is. I have an appt. this week to see the breast specialist as a follow up to the inconclusive ultrasound and mammogram done previously and as a consultation for a surgical biopsy, which the doctor says is the only way to find out for sure if my lump, etc... is cancerous or just a chunk of fibrocystic tissue that for some reason kind of went off on its own(it is a hard lump and the only one like it I have). I also have been having strange, light green discharge, which I have never had before. I prefer not to have a biopsy if I do not have to, but my only concern is that if I second guess it and skip the biopsy and it turns to actually be cancer, then I just made a big mistake. My mom is actually getting ready to have a surgical breast biopsy herself for suspicious microcalcifications found in her breast, as this can sometimes be associated with Breast Cancer. She has had Ovarian Cancer in the past, did not agree to take chemotherapy or radiation treatment and has been very lucky so far. I just hope her breast biopsy this month does not reveal any breast cancer. We are hoping and praying things turn out for the best. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis with BC, as I know that can be a big challenge. I wish you the best, and I am sure you will be well. Thanks again for responding to my post.

Smile Thyroid Cancer before Breast Cancer

To the concerned guest,

I just read your post asking if there are any thyroid cancer patients who later developed breast cancer. I am a thyroid cancer survivor and a breast cancer survivor who is on weekly Herceptin. My thyroid cancer was found and treated in 1975 and my initial breast cancer was diagnosed in 1983. My recurrence of breast cancer was in 2002.
