Herceptin without Chemo

Stage 1 cancer. After a lumpectomy and radiation I had one chemo treatment which my body would not tolerate so went from there to Herceptin and Arimidex. Does anyone have any experience with Herceptin without Chemo?

Hi, and welcome
You might try a search for posts by Tom, who frequents this site. Look for "Mom's PET/CT results and a ?".

Herceptin has served as the "Backbone" of my treatment strategy for over 6 years, giving me great quality of life. In 2005, I was privileged to participate in the University of Washington/Seattle HER2 Vaccine Trial.

EFD, I am stage 1, ER+/PR+ and had lumpectomy, radiation (with Herceptin) and now Femara and Herceptin, no chemo. Will stay on Herceptin for one full year, every three weeks.

I was Stage 1, Her2 +++, ER PR - with zero positive nodes 7mm tumor IDC.. Mastectomy, not chemo, then a recurrence 1 1/2 years later to the neck nodes. I have been on Herceptin ever since and Xeloda was added 6 months ago.

I was stag 1 no nodes and no vascular invasion. I did herceptain for 1 year no chemo - i as assured by three separate oncs that herceptain works without chemo and in the not to far distant future this wll be the standard treatment. I am slo taking lupron shots and arimidex.

Thanks Susanne, I was told by a doctor in Houston not to take Chemo only Herceptin and Arimadex but my doctor here told me I needed chemo first as he had no protocol for taking herceptin alone. I took one chemo round and he said I could not take anymore so am taking only Herceptin. I have been reading a lot about Herceptin and I, too, have read that may be the treatment of the future but had not heard of anyone who only took Herceptin. So glad to hear from the ones who only took Herceptin as it has been a big concern for me. I have not heard about lupron shots but will research it tonight. I loved hearing that your doctors recommended only the Herceptin.

I recurred to the bones and lungs almost 4 years ago--I had

radiation to the bones--Herceptin, Aridia and various estrogen blockers since that time. No chemo for the recurrance as yet and fairly well maintained.
