rads question

I posted this the other night, but it's gone now, so I'll ask again. I had a lumpectomy under the left arm, about 2:00 if you were looking at me. For about a month now I've noticed a tender spot on a rib about the 9:00 spot on the same breast. It does not hurt continuously. In fact, if I hadn't been doing a self exam I would not even know it was there. So I asked if anybody had any ideas about what it could be, while I was waiting to go see the rad onc. I saw him this morning and after he made it even more sore from pushing on it, he thinks it's a cracked rib. He is ordering a ct just to be sure, and will be there when it's done so he can tell them what he wants to see. I do not remember getting hit there or bumping it in any way, but I do use my chest as a table of sorts when I lift heavy things over my head (hard to explain). He thought that could be enough pressure to have caused it since that would have been in rad area.

Juanita,

I had sore ribs with herceptin off and on all during treatment. I have also talked with others who had similar experiences. I had one spot on my mast side that would be very tender, but like you state, not constantly so. All my tests always showed clear, so I couldn't help but think it was herceptin and/or rad related side effect.

Hope all goes well for you,

I hope your rib is not too painful. I just finished RADS and have not had any problems yet. My shortness of breath seems to have really increased lately. I am not sure if it is from the continued use of herceptin or a combo of lung capactiy decrease from rads with herceptin. My MUGA results are due any day now, it was 54 last time, so I might of had my last herceptin for a while.

rads necrosis

Juanita, someone else replied earlier and the post was lost as part of putting things back together here -- Her post talked about radiation fibrosis as being one possibility.

Anyway, I have a hard ridge under the breast that is due to radiation necrosis. It isn't visible but it does feel different than the opposite side. It is quite painful when it is touched. My rads doc (the senior rads doc at the radiation treatment facility) did not recognize what it was when I went to see her somewhere around 2 years after completion of rads. But my surgeon knew what it was. I hope yours is something more treatable.

Hi

I also had a lumpectomy one year ago and rads in the fall, 33, and I am still
sore. I did not realize how sore until the Echo test and when they pushed on
the area around my breast and heart, it really hurt, but its not all the time.
They say Herceptin, and Arimedex are the causes and but I am having a
MRI just in case. Good luck but I think its just another side effect of all our
treatment.
