Sister diagnosed....
Yep, Wednesday...
She went for her 6 month mammo, then follow up biopsy (she's had them before) and BOOM.
My poor Mom. We are her only two children. And the first in the family with B/C. I guess all our daughters (total 3) will have to be carefully screened.
I don't know her details yet. if she's Her2 or es/pr+ or -. will find that out on the 17th. Good thing is that she was diligent with her checkups, and this is microscopic.

Wow Terri, I am so sorry to hear that your sister has bc too. Good thing she is so faithful with her mammos; it sounds like it was caught very early.
You said that you were the first in the family to have bc. With both you and your sister now dx'd, it just may qualify you to be tested for the BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes. It is a simple blood test - the "hardest" part is filing out the massive paperwork detailing family history. I was tested (came out negative) because I have a lot of cancer (bc and other) in my immediate family. My insurance paid for the test. However, even though I tested negative, my daughter knows she has to be vigilent throughout her life and be checked often.
My heart goes out to you and your family. If your sister is anything like you she will do just fine. She is lucky to have you to help her along the way.

I'm very sorry to hear about your sister. I often think about this very thing. No breast cancer in the family and then out of nowhere it shows up in multiple members. Keep us posted regarding her info. I will pray that things go well for her in the coming weeks. Having you to assure her that all is doable will comfort her.

I am sorry to hear about your sister. Two sisters with BC is just too much, although Colleen's sister, Kim, also had BC four years earlier. Kim has absolutely been a godsend. She has been so supportive and she really helps us manage expectations. There is no other BC in their family and both were negative for BCRA. Sometimes it really is a matter of astronomically bad luck.
Teri, please know that your sister and her family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I have to be there for her...
She has it worse than me, ya'll....
Her hubby has diabetes, cirrosis (sp) and hepatitis. He is currently on a regimen of medicine that is worse than my chemo. He has to take interferon injections once a week, and some ribo-something pills (7 per day). They have made him so weak, and sick. I feel so bad for him/her. She was getting along fine taking care of him, now this.
I will keep smiling and let her know that life goes on. NO MATTER WHAT.
She will NEVER see me struggle. She doesn't need that kind of stress.
Thanks for all your support. You guys are angels in my outfield.

I am very sorry about your sister's diagnosis. You are very much like me - 2 months into chemo, my mother was diagnosed. Hers was also caught very early (9mm and strongly ER and PR positive. No Her2). By the time biospy and surgery were done, I was almost done with chemo. She only needed radiation so we went to consultation together and had the same radiation onc. My mom finished rads about 3 weeks earlier than me because I had to wait about 3 weeks between chemo and rads.
We are very special to our surgeon and rad onc. But, I do feel for you. It is hard because it is hard to help out as much as you might want to.
Maybe all you'll have is a rads partner like I did.

I'm sorry to hear of your sister's diagnosis. I know how you feel about your mom. My sister passed away from MS in 2000 and then I was diagnosed with early-stage bc in 2003. My mom now has Alzheimer's Disease. She still knows me, but I've never told her about my cancer advancing and my lung surgery last year.
You and your family are in my prayers. With all your knowlege you'll be a great help to your sister.

Diagnosed stage 2b in July 2003 (2.3 cm, HER2+, ER-/PR-, 7+ nodes). Treated with mastectomy (with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction), AC + T/Herceptin (off label). Cancer advanced to lung in Jan. 2007 (1 cm nodule). Started Herceptin every 3 weeks. Lung wedge resection April 2007. Cancer recurred in lung April 2008. RFA of lung in August 2008. 2nd annual brain MRI in Oct. 2008 discovered 2.6 cm cystic tumor in left frontal lobe. Craniotomy Oct. 2008 (ER-/PR-/HER2-) followed by targeted radiation (IMRT). Coughing up blood Feb. 2009. Thoractomy July 2009 to cut out fungal ball of common soil fungus (aspergillus) that grew in the RFA cavity (most likely inhaled while gardening). No cancer, only fungus. Removal of tiny melanoma from upper left arm, plus sentinel lymph node biopsy in Feb. 2016. Guardant Health liquid biopsy in Feb. 2016 showed mutations in 4 subtypes of TP53. Repeat of Guardant Health biopsy in Jana. 2021 showed 3 TP53 mutations, BRCA1 mutation and CHEK2 mutation. Invitae genetic testing showed negative for all of these. Living with MBC since 2007. Stopped Herceptin Hylecta (injection) treatment in March 2020. Recent 2021 annual CT of chest, abdomen and pelvis and annual brain MRI showed NED. Praying for NED forever!!

I am so sorry to read your post, but glad you will be there to help her. You've learned so much and have a lot to share. Remember the tape recorder or note book. Make sure she gets copies of any reports and just try to make her laugh as much as possible. Don't let her get swallowed up by the pity party - let her have a few days but then pull her out of it!!! As for your mom, I do feel so sorry for her. My mom is loosing her patients with me and the steroids/mood changes (eight years of this crap). Take her for a massage or a meditation/yoga class. Find a family or caretaker support group for her. There are free support groups all over the place. Good luck and God bless....

Yes, this is my older sister by about 22 months. we have always been very close. Matter of fact, we live together in a 6 bedroom house. Makes it easy to take care of one another.

Thanks for asking Believe, and all the prayers from everyone!
She went to the surgeon yesterday (same one that i had) and she basically has the same choice that i did. "You have cancer, (very very early) you can have a lumpectomy with rads and see how the path reports come back and possibly face more surgery, or:
You can have a double mastectomy, and chances are VERY good that no rads or chemo will be required!" She could have her perky new ta ta's before me! >
She will probably have an MRI just to help her make her decision. That's what i did. She seems fine and is leaning on me, so that's fine!
