Drink your black and green tea to prevent all

Drink tea to prevent all cancers:

Well, we all have discussed a lot how teas can block the her2 pathway in bc. Now I find it can block other cancers too by blocking Telomerase.

Then use Rembrandt toothpaste, the one designated "intense stain removal" because those teas cause external staining of the teeth pretty readily. The stain is only a cosmetic and will not harm the teeth in any way, but it can look a bit unslightly. Have found this toothpaste works well in keeping the stain off.

Tea blocks the Her2 pathways to BC?! I love tea so this is great news.

I am wondering about other diet changes. I know to cut out the fat, but soy? Do ER/PR negative with Her2 + need to worry much about soy?

Any other diet ideas pertaining to Her2+ surviors?
I feel as if I am buying time with treatment and diet. During chemo I did not do well with diet and exercise, too tired.

Dear Dana

Look at the Mediterrean diet thread. I am going to talk to Joe about adding another "category" on diet and supplements to the board so it will be easier to look things up.

Anyway - ensure that you are getting enough vitamin D (at least 1000 - 2000 iu per day via food and supplements or 3-4X in the sun - most of the body exposed with no sunscreen for about 15 minutes). Balance the omega3/6 fatty acids. You can be strict with diet or add fishoil supplements. Change your cooking oils to canola and extra virgin olive oil.

Look at the thread - its helpful. Eat plenty of veggies and fruits - especially the colorful ones. Berries, broccoli etc.

Besides diet - walking 5 hours per week (one hour, 5 days per week) is extremely beneficial. Stabilizes blood sugar/insulin, keeps weight in check, lowers circulating estrogen levels etc, etc

The doctors do their part, and you do your part and your home! There is so much to learn. And, the diet and exercise part doesn't just help for recurrence or a new cancer - it helps in every kind of disease state (heart, stroke, dementia etc).

Have a great weekend

Hi Dana-

I'm new here too. I don't post much but do read many of the posts, everyone on this site is wonderful. At first I was scared off & stayed away for a little while but now I find everyone here very inspirational. As I'm sure you've already seen, everyone tries to help each other and offers support in anyway they can.
I too am Er-,Pr- and my surgeon told to stay away from soy just in case. For me it's not a big issue to do so but if concerned, you may want to check with what your doctor recommends.

Liz,

Yes, I was scared off at first, too, stayed away for months. This site may be a better match for me than the Komen Site--both are good sites but I am interested in Her2+ information now more than ever.

Harrie, thanks for the inform. on stain removing toothpaste. Yes, the teas do stain the teeth, but the anti-oxidant benefits are worth it to me. My dental hygienist used ultrasound to clean the stains on my teeth the last time where I had stains, mainly in the bottom back of my teeth, and it was easy, painless and did a nice job.
PS Newcomers , Liz and other, welcome, the feeling is mutrual, I used to be scared of this site too. However, the people here are helpful and kind, and I've learned a lot here over the years about HER2 breast cancer, more than any other website.

Smile Relevance

Hi Robin -- Personally I think these benefits are real and the reminder is a good one.

But I also think that because cancer is so unpredictable we need to have whatever feeling possible that we can make some difference for ourselves....

Off to get some exercise, some tea, and some turmeric!

A.A.

Black and green tea are also very good at cleaning out the liver (I have too much iron in my liver and I've been jaundice). I've been drinking lots of water and lots of unsweetened ice tea and my color is coming back to normal. My eyes are nearly white again and my skin is starting to pink up. I don't know what is working, but I think cleaning up your diet in addition to treatments makes a HUGE difference.
