I had osteopenia (and still do) when I was in my 40's. Always did weight bearing exercise but it runs in my family. Also had early menopause so lack of estrogen definitely contributed.

I was on Fosamax and other biophasphates over the years, including Reclast injections. After 15 years of being on "something", endocrinologist and oncologist decided to have me on nothing since research now shows that 5 years is the optimum for that drug class. Plus, Femara and other AI's are definitely the culprit in any bone loss.

Side effects of weekly Fosamax - can't really recall any but you need to take it 30 minutes before drinking or eating anything to prevent any kind of GERD/heartburn.

It's a pretty benign drug, don't worry

Nov 29, 2012: Begin TCH/6x/every 3 wks, H for 1 year/every 3 weeks.
March 14, 2013: Finished chemo
April 9, 2013: Begin radiation 28x
May 22, 2013: Finished rads
June 1st, 2013: Started Aromasin for 5 yrs.
July 15, 2013: Switched to Letrozole (Femara). Probably for the rest of my life
October 16, 2013: Exchange surgery
October 31, 2013: Finished Herceptin
December 5, 2013: Port removed
Glad this year is over!
