I have provided below a cross-link to a presentation made at the December 2002 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium entitled "Optimizing Treatment Strategies in Breast Cancer: Use of Minimally Invasive Techniques/Gene Expression Profiling to Predict Response and Prognosis."

If you scroll down the page you will find the following presentations:

"Occult Micrometastases in the Sentinel Node: Identifying Prognostic Significance"

"Occult Metastases in Bone Marrow Cells: Role in Early Detection and Prognosis"

If you would like to review these presentations just "click" on the presentation title. The Medscape menu box will request your username and password. Simply type in "her2support" for your user name and "member" for the password. These steps should give you access to the presentations.

As Susan Love MD noted in her discussion of this topic there are several studies still underway to evaluate the usefulness (if any) of micrometastases as a prognostic indicator.
