Re: Back Pain

I didnt read what you wrote word for word. You mentioned the NSAID drugs like Naproxen and Ibuprofen and the fact that they are blood thinners makes your oncologist hesitant to let you use them.

Im curious if the Naprosyn and or Ibuprofen were effective against the pain. If they were maybe you should talk with the oncologist. Every drug is a question of risk vs benefit and if the Naprosyn was effective against the pain the benefit might outway the risk.

Interestingly the Nsaid drugs (Naprosyn, Ibuprofen, Celebrex, Indocin etc) have
an anticancer action at least in a theoretical sense by inhibiting Cyclo-Oxygenase type 2. This may be important in cancer prevention, Im not sure, in any way about treatment of cancer. Yet studies indicate that people who chronically take, say Ibuprofen have less cancer than those who dont.

Im not suggesting you go against the oncologists wishes. But if the Naprosyn and or Ibuprofen were effective in decreasing the pain you should talk with her. The blood thinning action of Aspririn lasts days, while that of Ibuprofen lasts a few hours. If you are takling Ibuprofen and need some kind of invasive surgery, the drug could be stopped one or two days before the surgical procedure.
