garlic oil helps boost White blood cells during chemo/radiation therapy (in mice)

haven't read full article yet, but thought this might be worth posting already

Garlic Oil May Ease Cancer Tx Side Effects

Garlic oil may reduce hematologic adverse effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, a mouse study showed.

The supplement didn't boost the efficacy of chemotherapy plus radiation, showing no impact on tumor inhibition in mice with cancer, Xiu-Lan Zhao, of China's Shandong University School of Public Health, and colleagues reported in the Journal of Food Science.

However, oral doses of 25 to 50 mg/kg during treatment did improve peripheral white blood cell counts compared with chemoradiation alone and also appeared to protect the bone marrow and spleen.

"Garlic oil could be used as complementary medicine for cancer patients receiving chemo/radiotherapy, as it could attenuate the adverse effects of chemo/radiotherapy," the researchers concluded.
