Aromatase Inhibition and Cognitive Function in Breast Cancer

From PracticeUpdate:

  • Breast cancer patients treated with aromatase inhibitors underwent cognitive function assessment and PET scanning at baseline and after 6 months of therapy to assess their cognitive abilities. After 6 months of therapy, the patients with breast cancer showed no changes in cognitive function compared with matched healthy controls. However, PET showed changes in uptake in the median temporal lobes of the treatment group.
  • Aromatase inhibitors do not appear to cause acute cognitive changes, but longer-term studies may be required.
