Hi Barbara - I started taking Herceptin in February of this year - I was told that I could get fever and chills, nausea and vomiting, pain or a headache (flu-like symptoms) - if you get these symptoms they usually occur after your first treatment and begin to subside with each treatment.
After my first treatment, I woke up in the middle of the night just drenched, but things have been fine since then - I don't think I feel any different after I get it.
I don't know what is standard practice, but I am in Ontario - before I get Herceptin, I am given Benadryl (a type of antihistamine) and 2 tylenol tablets.
