They test breast cancer for hormone receptors and HER2. If all three (ER, PR, and HER2) are present, then a cancer is "triple positive." If none, then it's triple negative.
I don't actually know for a fact that my bone met is triple negative. It appeared while I was on an estrogen blocker, and it always progresses when I'm on just HER2 drugs, so I'm deducing that it is. I'm told it's hard to biopsy bone and get a good result.
