No big Herceptin run for me either

I've been taking Herceptin since June '06. First with Taxol and now with Xeloda/Tykerb. I had about 4 months on Herceptin alone before my lung tumor woke up again. I hoped to get so much more. My...

Generic for Zofran

I use Zofran for nausea and, like you was trying to minimize my intake after the shock at the register! Well, now there is a generic for Zofran...ONDANSETRON HCL. My last monthly order was just a...

Not too much history

Hi Amy,

I finished WBR very recently, so my experience is limited to this year only. I would also like to hear from people who have been a year or more out from WBR.

During the 15 rad...

Everyone is different, but...

I kept working full time plus during my first episode of BC. I only missed time for chemo every 3 weeks and daily radiation. I scheduled all this to be as minimally invasive to my job/family as...

New to this

My brain mets were discovered in January. I had 7 small mets, all in the 2-4 mm range. The radiologist thought there was a strong liklihood there were more we couldn't see, so she recommended WBR. ...

Kids and BRCA

I was pretty sure I had one of the BRCA genes once BC started popping up all over the family, including my mom. Like you, I didn't see the point in getting tested but went ahead anyway, mostly to...

It stinks!

Hi Angela,

Just 2 weeks ago, I weaned myself off the decadron...alleluhia! Only very bland foods tasted good to me and, yes, my stomach was extended. As long as you're not having symptoms (i.e....

Sounds like great fun

I would really enjoy meeting others in the area (I'm in Naperville), but that's a big gardening weekend for me and I'm sure my kids will want me home to celebrate Mother's Day. Maybe we can hook up...

Higher rate of recurrence?

Have you been told that testing positive for BRCA 1/2 makes you more susceptable to recurrences? These cancers (at least BRCA 1) are more agressive, but I don't know if that means we have a higher...

My doc wants me on Tykerb ASAP...

...because there's evidence it crosses the blood/brain boundary and I just finished WBR treatment. The Tykerb won't blast existing tumor but can help prevent recurrence of brain mets. Last time I...

Can they really tell it's working?

Hi Angela,

I finished 15 WBRTs a month ago. I'll have a follow-up MRI after 6 weeks (so mid-March). My doctor implied there's not much they can know until then because the tumors are still...

A few weeks ahead of you...

I'm sorry you have to go through this, Darita. I had 7 small lesions (< 4mm) and had WBR in January. I held off taking decadron as long as possible during WBR since I had no symptoms prior to...

A few steps ahead of you...

Hi Angela,

I finished WBR in late January to treat multiple very small brain mets. This was after being treated for lung mets last year. So...I'll share my experience with WBR.

I had 15...

Yes, get a restest on mets!

YES, YES, get the mets boipsed! My original tumor was HER2- (IHC), but my lung mets tested by FISH were HER2+. It opens up Herceptin and hopefully Tykerb as treatment options!

This happened to me!

Thanks for sharing, Al.

My HER2 status did a flip upon mets! My primary BC tumor did not overexpress HER2neu, but my lung mets were slightly HER2+ by FISH.

Just reemphasizes the fact that...

Why WBR?

I have 7 measurable tumors between 2 and 4.5 mm. The radiology oncologist is concerned there are more that can't be measured or seen yet.

Should I be challenging this treatment plan?

My doctor left me with the impression these brain mets just don't pop up over night and start causing headaches.

With your recent tests, sounds like you should go back to dancing with NED (I hope...

Was HER-, now HER+

Hi Sandy,

I seem to be a unique case! I was triple negative upon my initial diagnosis in '99. My '06 lung mets had turned HER2+++, so that's why I'm on herceptin. This is why I encourage...
