Re: Please, Lord

Thinking of you every day, Penny, and hoping for a good chemo response and a decrease in that pesky bilirubin.

I believe in miracles, and I hope with my whole heart that yours comes quickly.

Re: So Very Upset

Well, that sucks. Not to put too fine a point on it or anything.

Cathy, I don't even know what to say in the face of this news. I have no doubt that the chemo combo will bring you back to NED in...

That bilirubin will stay down, Penny, and the chemo will do a stellar job for you. I have faith. Try not to be afraid.

Re: Weight Gain, No loss - Due to Tamoxifen?

When I started chemo, I had just hit 139.2 pounds. By the time I started tamoxifen, I weighed between 150-155. Seven months later, I was 156, and I was too tired to keep my food diary.

My weight...

Oh Saygoon. Just when you were starting to feel better. I'm so sorry, but more than that, I want to punch your onc in the nose.

Re: important new study regarding prevention of resistance to treatment of her2+ bc

I'll pull my head out of the sand for a moment here (but I'm going right back under afterward).

Standard therapy = chemotherapy et al., without trastuzumab

Our collective prognosis before...

Re: Happy Birthday Rhondalea

I'd have been here sooner, but my birthday present to me was to take the weekend off from posting/answering email. Nothing scandalous, I fear, but it's a good suggestion, so I'll put it on my list...

Re: Still Missing NEDenise

I'm not sure I'll ever have a coherent paragraph to offer on the subject of NEDenise, but I will never forget her, and I'll miss her always.

Thank you, Amy. <Here's the line that's missing.> As...

Re: Does 30 grams of fat per day reduce recurrence rates?

The answer to the questions of preventing breast cancer in the first place and preventing a recurrence of breast cancer is the same: "No one knows for sure, but these are the things research says...

Re: Does 30 grams of fat per day reduce recurrence rates?

But don't you think the same principles apply to recurrence as to prevention of a first cancer? The conclusion of the paper Jackie posted says the following:

Re: Study reveals effective tx for chemobrain

Thank you for that. It's very encouraging for me to see this is being worked on because it's something we all have to deal with to varying degrees, and we should never have been left to muddle...

Re: Does 30 grams of fat per day reduce recurrence rates?

Great find, Jackie. Here's a direct link to the PDF of the full paper. Lots of information (with a big helping of uncertainty):

Thanks, Hopeful. I order a copy of the study using the PatientAccess link. The cost is $3.50. I'm very excited about this study, because Patty Ganz has been one of our biggest and best advocates, but...

You must be beside yourself, Kathryn. I think sometimes that waiting is worse than knowing.

I found a small lump on my anterior axillary fold a couple of weeks ago. I stayed calm--at least...

Re: Does 30 grams of fat per day reduce recurrence rates?

Indeed, Becky, you are correct. (But that could still be the weight loss, not the low-fat aspect.)

Bottom line seems to me to be that a fresh food diet (avoid processed food) that ignores the...

Re: Two New Genes.

Well, I tried Interpretome. Apparently rs13294895 is in high linkage disequilibrium with rs7875633, which is tested by 23andMe. Interpretome imputes that I am homozygous normal for this one too.

Re: Two New Genes.

23andMe tests rs10816625 but apparently not rs13294895, at least based on my results.

SNPedia has an entry for rs13294895, so one of the dtc companies is testing it.

23andMe has a nasty habit...

The researcher, herself, wasn't sure if it was the low-fat diet or the...

Re: New patient-centered mobile app launched for breast cancer patients

I'm so disappointed that they've limited this to Apple and iPhones, but I'm not willing to buy an iPhone to participate. I suspect a lot of women will be left out because of this gap.
