My oncologist has been running this test every 3 months on me, and we just recently decided to use the results of this test to determine whether or not to run scans (as opposed to doing the scans...

Kriss -
If you get a port in your chest, it is completely under the skin so no special care is needed. It just looks like a bump on your chest. When the port is accessed, they have to stick it...

I'm going every 3 wks, and I've been NED for about 18 months now. My onc said that the research backs up that there is really no difference between every week and every 3 week infusions.

It is...

I had 3 spots on my liver and 1 on my pelvis, which disappeared pretty quickly after starting chemo in 10/05 (Carboplatin, Taxol, Herceptin). I've been in remission ever since chemo ended on 4/06,...

Why would she stay on chemo if the mets disappeared? I had 3 small liver mets which went away with 6 months of chemo/herceptin, and since then I've been on herceptin alone. No recurrence.

I take 200mg of CoQ10.

I'm on Herceptin indefinitely, every 3 wks, and so far my MUGA has been great. My onc is fine with me taking it (and all the other supplements I take!)

Mine is infused in 30 mins.

I get Herceptin every 3 weeks. I've had no problems with the faster infusion time. My onc was originally on the 90-minute regimen, but I asked him if we could condense that, so we went to 1 hr the...

I had scans while undergoing chemo....

....and I was getting chemo weekly. It was never an issue. My onc wanted to be sure the chemo was working, and the only way to check that is to do scans.

Can you have your onc's office call to...

They will want to access the port from the top....

...so its easiest to wear a v-neck, a shirt with buttons, or something with a zipper. I often work a tank top with a zippered hoodie over it, and yoga pants. Something comfortable, for sure!

My onc's office only mixes up as much as needed, and uses saline to do it. They never pre-mix the herceptin or use some that is left over from another preparation.

One word of caution on this....

....while many organizations are donating a decent amount of profits of their "pink" merchandise to breast cancer research organizations, this is not the case for all of them. Take a look at...

That is such wonderful news, Lisa!

I'm so happy your intuition was off. Hopefully they can figure out what else is going on and get it resolved soon.

Now go out and enjoy your weekend!

Hey Natalie, something to consider.....

If there is a good chance you are stage IV, why are you stopping herceptin? I was diagnosed as stage IV last fall, and I'm currently in remission, but I am going to continue on the herceptin...

I was diagnosed as Stage IV from the start.

My docs initially thought I was stage II (I had 4/22 nodes positive) but the PET and CT scans I had before beginning treatment showed mets to the liver and pelvis. I was initially diagnosed 9/05 and...

It's standard procedure in my onc's office.

Before beginning treatment, I had a PET scan as well as a CT of the chest, abdomen and pelvis. This is how we discovered that, instead of being stage II as we thought, I was stage IV.

Seems to...

It takes a looooong time.

I finished up chemo on April 6th and my hair is only about 3/4 inch long. I continued to wear hats for a good 2 months following my last chemo, and probably would have gone longer if it wasn't...

Herceptin *is* FDA approved.

It was approved by the FDA back in 1998.

There have been some studies comparing weekly vs. every-three-week doses of herceptin, and none of them (so far) show any kind of statistical difference...

Good CT and MUGA results today!

I have been off chemo and on every-three-week herceptin since April; I was pronounced NED at that time. So this was my first follow-up CT since chemo was over. Good news to report - I'm still NED!...

I stayed relatively the same.

I maybe lost 2-3 lbs during chemo, and now that I'm just on herceptin and really watching what I eat & exercise, I've lost another 10 lbs or so.

I started out about 15 lbs overweight, so I'm...
