Re: Hello NEW Member Looking for info

Hi Maureen,

hope you and your sister are doing 'ok' (as far as one can at this point). Mum has just finished her 6 chemo treatments about 6 weeks ago, and the beginning was the hardest in a lot of...

Re: Clinical trials - are doctors allowed to talk?

Hi Kirismum,

I work in research (though not clinical trials), and as the ladies have said, it sounds very much like it's too early to have results. Until they have a decent number of people...

Re: Just Starting Our Fight, Help.

One more thought on the hair issue - I don't know how much it costs, but in the waiting rrom I saw a flyer for a company that makes wigs and 'hair under hats' (I think thats like a half wig but...

Re: Right mastectomy 3 yrs ago....now left side?

Hi Deeze,

sorry to hear about your recurrence. I believe breast recurrences aren't considered as big a deal for survival than mets to other areas, so if you've got through the original liver and...

Re: Just Starting Our Fight, Help.

I don't know if they have them where you live, but there was a free session we went to called 'look good feel better' (or something like that) that had lots of beauty tips for women going through...

Re: Just Starting Our Fight, Help.

PS - to pack for the chemo lounge: We usually take a comfy cardigan in case it's cold, some of Mum's fave teabags and a healthy lunch (her hospital provides sandwiches but we both ended up with a...

Re: Just Starting Our Fight, Help.

Hi Freaked Out,

Good choice of user name but hopefully in time it won't feel so accurate.

My mum has just had her 5th of 6 TCH chemo sessions. The first was probably the hardest because it was...

Re: Options about surgery after chemotherapy

My understanding is that medically the 2 options have similar enough outcomes that it really comes down to what the woman feels most comfortable with (unless a mastectomy is medically required). It...

Re: Is Herceptin working and the need for scans

Hi Gail,

I'm not an expert on this as Mum was only diagnosed in Jan, but we are in Australia too and have been wondering about the same issue.

It is standard practice here not to do any more...

Re: I'm all done - why depressed?

Oh, I'm so happy for you. Made me tear up a bit reading about having to work through chemo (here in Australia private health insurance is not tied to work and is reasonably affordable for many though...

Re: Hiding anxiety attack.

Hi Nguyen, that must be so stressful for you. My Mum (one of my 2 dearest people in the world) was diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and it would be so scary to be facing a progression.

This...

Re: Hi from an HER2 Daughter Newbie

PS I'm in awe of the grace and strength you ladies show. I hope you don't mind me having a little whinge about a measly biopsy surgery when you have all been through so much more.

Re: Hi from an HER2 Daughter Newbie

Hi Adriana, thanks for your lovely message.

I was just starting to enjoy feeling like I had my head clear again to focus well on my phd research when my own "just to be on the safe side"...

Hi Irvinefriend,
I'm not in your position, but you sound so much like me! So I can give you a little advice that I'd struggle to take on board myself. You sound like someone who works so hard and...

Re: The Downside To Clinical Trials

I agree Lizbeth - one of the things I really like about this board is that there is an intelligent approach to understanding cancer, and becoming informed, proactive advocates for ones own health and...

Re: Hi from an HER2 Daughter Newbie

Thanks 'lizbeth. It's so nice to think that the worry will fade away in time. I try not to dwell on it, but sometimes its just there.

The advice about being proactive with lifestyle factors is...

Re: Water retention on Herceptin

Mum's onc recommended eating watermelon for the fluid retention (something to do with electrolyte balance I think?). Seems to help, not that we've got anything to compare to as she started this in...
