Re: Cancer centers of America

If you are talking about Cancer Treatment Centers of America I would stay far, far away. They are a for-profit operation that has been accused of dubious practices. ...

Re: scar tissue

Also, my PS recommended a scar reducing product called "Scar Fade" which Amazon sells. I haven't tried it yet, but plan to. I used an antioxidant facial cream on the original mastectomy scar and...

Re: scar tissue

Donna,

I had a DEIP recon last fall, followed by a revision surgery to smooth out the scars and even things up 3 weeks ago. The DIEP surgery was about 10 months after radiation. Depending on the...

Re: Arizona Prop 303 - Right To Try

Right to try laws do not require that your insurance company pay for the treatments, and if you suffer medical complications as the result Of taking an experimental drug, insurance won't cover that,...

Re: Implant Question / Radiation Question - Concerns

Radiation works by damaging the dna in actively reproducing cells so that they cannot reproduce. Cancer cells are actively reproducing. HER2 cells are even more active. Following this logic it...

Re: New breast cancer vaccine provides evidence of immunotherapy in preventing diseas

This is indeed exciting news; I wish I could have been on the trial.

So what is the Phase III part of a trial? Will they enroll new patients or just continue following the original cohort?

Re: Nipple sparing -- risky or safe?

Lizz,

I had a unilateral nipple sparing mastectomy one year ago, followed by radiation and Herceptin. My docs were fine with nipple sparing and I decided to take the risk, especially since I was...

Re: Researchers Find Gene Signature Predictive of Late Distant Recurrence

This is fascinating! I wish I knew more about statistics but this sounds promising:

Conclusion
In this study, we discovered a distinct set of genes that predicts late recurrence in breast...

Re: Hand Slapped by my surgical oncologist 😡

Eva,

Your medical team should work together. I wonder if the surgical oncologist said "no" because you'd be going to a different hospital, or maybe your plastic surgeon doesn't have privileges at...

Re: Port Removal Question

Thank you ladies for your comments! This is helpful and I think I'll have it scheduled in-office instead of at the hospital. Although, Bonnie, you are on the mark with the anesthesia comment!

Port Removal Question

Hello all,

I just finished my year's worth of Herceptin. I won't be trading out my expander for something permanent until the Fall so I'm scheduled to have my port removed later this month. My...

Re: Guess it was a good run... Time for the gloves

Jameih,

I am also sorry to hear that you have to have more treatment. It does seem baffling that it has reappeared in the same breast after a mastectomy.

I just had my annual mammogram on my...

Re: Can't feel the lump!!

That is wonderful news! I noticed the same thing when I had neoadjuvent TCH--my large tumor was noticably smaller after just the first treatment! I could barely feel it by the time I had surgery,...

Re: DIEP Flap Peeps/surgery/questions as usual

Linn,

I was told I could get a "lift" on my healthy breast, so that it matches my fake one. My thought was "heck yes" I want that. I want to look as good as possible, and at age 55 I could use...

Linn,

Re: Vitamin D boosts survival of breast cancer patients

I was told I had very low vit D levels about 3 years before I was diagnosed and started taking Vit D3 right away. At the time of my surgery, my surgeon (a big proponent of vit D) tested my levels...

Re: Neoadjuvant Roll Call

I had neoadjuvant TCH last summer; 4 round 3 weeks apart. Last one July 22 or 23.

I started out with a large tumor of 9 cm. I think that was why they recommended chemo first--to reduce the tumor...

Re: Nuelasta v Granix

Adriana,

Nuelasta and Nuepogen are both designed to build your white blood cell count after chemo, so they help prevent infections. I don't know why some of us receive these shots and others do...

Nuelasta v Granix

Anybody heard about changes related to Nuelasta in their clinics? There was evidently a bit of a shakeup in the Nuelasta/Nuepogen world last November, and now there is a drug called Granix that my...

Re: Wisdom and experience needed!

Hi Mickey,

The answer might depend on what your chemo mix is. Some people now do just 4 TCH treatments and others do 6. If 4 has been proven to be as effective than 6 than I don't understand...
