Re: Splitting nails

My last chemo treatment was 02/01/2016, last Herceptin on 09/19/2016. My nails still are very brittle, especially those on the middle fingers will split at any excuse. The skin at the outer corner of...

Re: I Guess I just had Bad Luck!

I was an avid endurance athlete. When they did all those scans to check for progression there was not enough fat between internal organs for proper distinction. So I guess now I have in writing that...

Re: I Guess I just had Bad Luck!

Same here: Healthiest life style of all the family and the only one afflicted.

But: If most cancer is just random bad luck: Why are numbers rising? You get answers like: People get older, but to...

Re: How Her2+ BC patients develop brain metastases

Statistics don't apply to individual persons (or actions) ever, they are just data put into a certain perspective.

Since people aren't logical but emotional beings they're not equipped to judge...

Re: Perjeta Side-Effects

Try a foot bath with epsom salts. After taxol your feet will welcome some TLC anyway and it even might help you sleep if you do it before bed time.

Re: Perjeta Side-Effects

Since you mention it: I took frequent baths in epsom salts and supplemented with high pH salt tablets and did not have a lot of trouble going through chemo. Could be coincidence, but the MO agreed it...

Re: Hair color

Did they give you a reason as to why you should wash you hair only once or twice a week?
Since my hair still is very short, does not feel like it used to, and only now picks up a bit of speed...

Re: Port or No Port?

Getting Perjeta as first line therapy seems to have been a stroke of luck in all of this: Three month earlier and it most likely would not have happened as per german law.
Still, the future is open...

Re: Port or No Port?

No port here. They never asked when they took the sentinel lympf nodes and when chemo started the oncologist said I had good veins, we could try and do without. Fine with me, even though veins...

Re: Perjeta Side-Effects

Like you I'm convinced fibres that can bind a lot of fluid can work both ways, either get things moving or bulking them up for slower movement. During chemo I varied between finely ground coconut and...

Re: Update on Paula/Cancer Fightin' Words

Oh yes, all those niggling things. None of them enough for a complaint, but they sure keep adding up. Keep you humor!

BTW, I scrubbed my itching head and my scars with epsom salts whenever I was...

Re: Treatment over age 70

Well, not quite on topic, but since there seem to be no other experiences with this:

My MIL, aged 78, is being treated for ovarian cancer. She has had extensive surgery and now gets chemo with...

Re: LVEF Question

Thank you for answering.
In germany all oncologists have a second field of experience. My first one was a cardiologist and did the MUGA scans himself. A reference before chemo, a check-up after...

Re: LVEF Question

I had a MUGA scan done before TCHP and one when the six cycles were done: No dicernible change. Since I am physically active and think I would notice if the left ventricular output would get low, I...

Re: Pneumonia....really?

You are hesitant to go because they make you wait. It's like everything you might want from them is unimportant or even a drag for them - and you with it. Nobody cares for that feeling. That said: I...

Re: Diagnosed with 2nd Primary

Hi Paula, I am so sorry you have to go through all those therapy steps again. And I am totally with you: We need to do more than just remove the symptoms, we need to do something against the cause....

Re: ASCO: breakthrough finding in her2+ breast cancer--preventing resistance to anti

The way I understood this is, that Herceptin binds to receptors on cancer cells, thus stopping them from dividing. While Herceptin is bound to cell, your own immune system recognizes cell as...

Re: potential treatment for cancer-related neuropathic pain

This may not be relevant, but anyway: While undergoing chemo it occured to me that if chemo destroyed lots of skin cells, which are predominantely made of glycine, I'd better eat stuff that has lots...

Re: Working thread - what do you think the HER2+ standard of care should be really?

Don't we all wish this were possible in all cases? I'm still in therapy for stage II BC and had to decide whether to do radiation - declined that as even the radiologist indicated in my case it might...
