I had a drain for lumpectomy and it was no big deal. Nurses checked and cleaned it regularly, and it comes out when drainage slows.

I didn't have a mastectomy, so I can't speak from experience. However, if I have a recurrence, I would definitely then go for a double mastectomy no matter what, because I agree about the "matched...

You will be told what the research suggests is your best option. For me, with only one affected area, it was a lumpectomy and that's what I did. I did this because I tend to be an "evidence" person,...
