steroids and muscle weakness
 

anyone else who has been on steroids for swelling end up with muscle weakness and confusion?

mom had MRI all good. had spinal tap, everything clear. STILL little confused at times and having difficulty walking with the same leg that she had problems with when she was diagnosed with left frontal lobe tumor. gamma knife was done in feb. could the symptoms be from the tumor healing? starting physical therapy tomorrow.

Muscle weakness is my middle name! If I get any slower on the stairs...I'm going to have to give up on them entirely! :)

The docs assure me that this too shall pass. I can't wait!

Yes mam. I definitely have the muscle weakness from the steroids. Im 44 years old, and if I got down on the floor for something, I had to crawl over to a table to get back up. I think the confusion may be from the whole brain radiation tho. I supposedly have problems with my short term memory and cognitive abilities, although I really only agree with the short term memory part. They told me to make sure I exercise every day to keep my muscles from melting from the steroids, so I was riding a stationary bike. Started at 30 minutes a day, and ended up at the end where I could barely do 10. It does get better. I have been off steroids a few weeks now, and I do notice a difference. Hang in there. YEP!! Me too! I was on dex in Oct., and I couldn't lift my leg up a stair the pain was so bad. I'm 33, but felt 93.
I'm back on the dex, and I have muscle weakness again.

See, she isn't alone. :) My nurse told me it can take 3-5 months after you get completely off the steroids to begin to feel like yourself again. Ugh. Big hugs to you.
