Remission word used

Hello All,

The latest CT said the liver spot has stayed the same for the past 6 months. My oncologist wants to have a PT/CT scan ran in 8 weeks to see if it is dead tissue. My doc does not use the word remission lightly but that is indeed the word he used. My husband was there to confirm. I insisted on having a brain MRI as I know that Her2 spreads quickly to the brain. Recent bone scan said no evidence of metastic disease. Incidentally, the CT scan report said "no evidence of metastic disease."

I guess what I am asking, should I use the word remission or wait until 2 months from now when the PT comes back? Family and friends have already been calling and I am just not sure what to say. I know that many here have been stable/NED and in the course of a few weeks everything changes.

Thanks for your advice and support,

Jackie

Re: Remission work used?

I, too, had one liver spot about the same size. It stayed stable at that size for many months. My doctor began to tell me he thought it was just scarring or "the dead body" of the tumor. I said, Hey, I'll take that, it's just a scar! :) So pretty much I went forward assuming that it wasn't active. I think if the doctor used the word remission, and doesn't use it lightly, he would be pretty confident to have used it. I think that is what i would tell people...the doctor told you that you are most likely in remission, but you won't know for absolute certain for another few weeks.
By the way, after about seven months of that little spot on my liver being stable, I had a CT scan and it was completely gone. :)

Just say "it's stable; will have another scan in 8 weeks to confirm remission status." Then throw a big party 8 weeks from now!

Thank you so much, ladies. I know one thing; it has been so reassuring and comforting to come here. Thank you again and I wish all of us could be NED (or stable) forever as Karen would say.

Take care,

Jackie

Re: Remission word used?

Hello ladies,

I thought I would check in. The Pt/Ct scan results are in. Looks like I can officially use the word remission. Thank you again for your kind words and support. I was told I would have another Pt/Ct scan in 6 months and continue on the herceptin and perjeta. And I asked for a brain MRI back in February which showed nothing as well. Thank you, Denise, for stressing the importance of the brain MRI.

Have a wonderful day,

Jackie

You have some very positive news. If you don't know what to tell your friends and family - well, the cautious news is that "I'm doing very, very well". The not so cautious news is "my Dr. thinks I am in remission and it will be verified in one more test next month:

Yippee for you. You are doing very, very well.
