Drains and staples after masectomy
 
I am hoping drains come out tomorrow, but I was wondering when do staples com out? Same time or what .

hmm. don't remember but not be overly anxious to get the drains out because I had one friend whose drains were taken out too early and it was a problem.

I can't speak to the staples because I had dissolving stitches.

Sarah is right, though. They won't remove the drains until there is minimal fluid in the drain bulbs (usually less than 25cc per drain during a 24 hr period). Did they have you keep a measurement chart of the fluid?

I had to wait almost 2 weeks, which is not too bad compared to some other people. The relief when they are removed - priceless!

I didn't have staples either. One of my drains came out after the first week. The second stayed in almost 3 weeks. SO nice once they were both out. I did have a friend that (6 yrs ago) had a drain removed too early and they had to put it back in. So, even though it was not comfortable - it's better to have them removed just once!
